And if your Spanish is so plucking good Stevie, why don't you make use of your talents and translate some of the Spanish language news for the folks
here, instead of looking for a fight?
By the way, I am a published author and know a few things about good composition. Gerund phrases -- i.e. words ending in "ing" -- are considered weak
and generally avoided. Direct and simple statements are the best, for example:
"To run and jump is good," is grammatically preferable to "Running and jumping are good." That's something you just won't learn after 20 years in the
motor pool.
So your "corrections" are not even for the better. They are worse.

Sorry to interrupt the cat fight that I'm sure has everybody enthralled, but back to the subject of the OP......
I'm not familiar with current management, back in the day when the Hideaway was managed by Beatriz and her daughters it was one of my favorite places
on Baja, and I spent a couple of months a year there. It truly had a touch of "Baja Magic".
As to Eddie Beaulne, he is a Baja character. As with Justice Stewart on pornography - 'it's hard to describe, but I know it when I see it' - it's
hard to capture Eddie in 25 words or less, but if you meet Eddie it's not likely that you will forget him. One thing that's almost certain is that
when Eddie passed through estados unidos on the way from Canada to Mexico, he didn't stop along the way and enroll in any Dale Carnegie courses.

Beatriz and daughters Vero and Luli at work on the big striped marlin. I don't as a general rule kill marlin, but marlin seem to be the favorite food
in El Cardonal and I did bring some back to the Hideaway.
An old lady who spent most of her waking hours in a rocking chair on her front porch reportedly said one day as she saw me pull into town, "God has
sent Bill back to El Cardonal to catch a marlin so I can have the belly meat".
What was I to do? I was apparently on a mission for God.

Before we all bury these two folks out of hand, I've stayed at that place several times, think it's lovely and unique, and would be
overjoyed if this couple manages to bring it back to life, Eddie or no Eddie. And regarding the man himself, he's the only one I've dealt with there
and in that context it's gone fine. I get the feeling he's getting a bit crotchety with years, but that could be said for a number of us here.

So your command of Spanish is soooooooooo bad that you'll argue that all I did was "rewrite" your stuff, as in simply say it in another,
equally-correct-but-worse, manner? Fly that one by any real Spanish speakers you might know--but probably don't.

Thanks for the info, Wiley. Let me fill in the blanks for you. Bajatripper was raised mainly in the Seattle, Washington area where his step-father,
William C Massey, was a professor of anthropology and a well-known scholar on Baja California. Professor Massey spent much time in Baja on research
grants and has published much on Baja. Bajatripper's mother has also written on Baja. He did attend school on occasion in La Paz. But, by no stretch
of the imagination was he raised there.
However, none of the foregoing demonstrates he has any great knowledge of Spanish. I have invited him to translate some Spanish articles for the folks
here, and so far he has not. Out here in the real world, Wiley, you have to either put up or shut up.

Kudos to you, Bill, and thanks. Not only for the great photos but also for the insight into the 'Baja Magic' the Hideaway must have been...and
hopefully will remain. I highly regret our paths could never have crossed there, as I have yet to discover the place for myself. I will do just that
later this year.
Great marlin eating photos, too. Looks like it went to a very honorable and 'hungry' cause. One in a blue moon is allowable with the fish gods, I'm
sure. They know, as I do, you care for the resource.

my background, but you, in your infinite arrogance, think you know better. You've been wallowing in your world of pig-crap so long that you wouldn't

I do translations for others when my own projects permit--indeed, you may already have read some of my work in that area. What I can say is that I
would never do any translating at your suggestion. I have no need to prove anything to you.

Oh.
For what it's worth I counted 10 (maybe 12, depending on one's personal style) errors in your blurb, and would go far as to dispute your allegation
that he changed anything to "a gerund phrase." All that ends in "ing" does not a gerund make, as I reckon you know.
And even with some errors it's more legible than the written English of a few here... so don't let us grammar grinches put you off... :-)

Thanks for your opinion, Lencho. For the record, I don't usually make the point I did with Mengano's work. I took exception for how he used it (I tire
real quick of people who use their limited foreign language skills to cuss people/things out--low marks in character) and because, well,...it's
Mengano and that guy tends to hold all to standards that he doesn't meet himself; he needs leveling once in a while (although he shows every sign of
being a very intellingent, well-informed person in English--hat's off to him for that).

The new couple taking care of El Cardonal's hide-a-way are doing a great job. They have the restaurant open and also make excellent bakery items. I
believe that Eddie does show up on occasion, but spends most of his time in La Paz.
