Prodigy Internet Blocking U.S. Websites?
In my recent experience trying to link photos from my website to Nomads, we all found out that many (all?) Prodigy Infinitum users could not access
the link. It did not seem to be a problem for Mexican ISP's other than Telmex. I asked a Nomad in La Paz to do a Traceroute on my website, which
shows each node that the signal travels through on its way from La Paz to the U.S.
The Traceroute showed that the signal died long before it got to the U.S. My hosting company took the Traceroute info and sent me this:
"From looking over the ping and trace route you provided us from your friend/customer in Mexico, it looks like a Mexican ISP is doing the blocking,
not us. If you go to Maxmind.com, a site for checking the location of IPs, and enter the ip listed in the trace route, in this case 200.38.193.226,
and submit it, you'll see the owner of the IP is
Uninet S. A. de C.V. located in Santa Apolonia Mexico.
They're stopping him at hop 2, with hop 1 being his home computer/network. . If we were blocking him, the trace route would make it to a
webhostinghub.com server before getting a "Request timed out" message. He will need to speak to his ISP and inquire on why they're blocking him
from accessing us as we would not be able to do anything in that regard."
I know Prodigy users can access the U.S., so I really don't know why my website, or my hosting company are blocked.
So, after that long-winded introduction, my question is: are there other websites that Prodigy users cannot access? Can we find a pattern with this
problem?

I have never heard of Prodigy blocking US Websites.
Which specific website are you having problems with?
Many US websites do not allow sites with foreign IP addresses access parts of their sites. Like videos on Hula and Univision.

The only problem I have had is US web sites blocking news videos to Mexico.

Lencho, the Traceroute data is in the first post. Legs' packet made it to Uninet S. A. de C.V. located in Santa Apolonia Mexico and was killed there.
Further, Nomad honcho Doug believes that all of the Nomads who reported not being to reach the site were Telmex/Infinitum users. Other Mexican ISPs
apparently had no trouble, according to my web data.
That seems pretty conclusive to my little mind, but I'll wait for you to concede!

And yes....I'm still on satellite from my casa to a second satellite in El Centenario, across the bay either to a 3rd satellite dish to direct to
Telmex....as you know, Morgaine is direct landline. On the original thread, you did catch the fact that someone (rhintransit?) turned on an IP hider
& was able to access Bruno's site?

Lencho, not the same Santa Apolonia--this is a specific router located in a specific place in Tabasco. The packet did leave Baja and was killed on
the mainland.

 Haven't noticed Prodigy blocking websites, but I do remember a couple of years ago
Telcel used to block some calls from gringo cell phones to numbers in the US.

Forgive my massive ignorance, but does any of this stuff have to do with the fact that, while in La Paz using a public internet wireless connection to
the internet at an internet cafe, I can't get the the English speaking yahoo.com website but instead get rerouted (redirected) to the Mexican (Spanish
language) yahoo website instead?
