Ruben and his son, FILI , have switched garages. Fili is not in the large walled compound where Ruben used to be and Fili is as good as his Father ever was.. Ruben is still doing some work, but nothing major. Also, if you need any welding done while in Loreto, Fili is the one that can do it. I would recommend Fili for mechanical and welding. Fili's old garage is located in MiraMar on Highway 1 just before entering Loreto..

And Fili is located in his fathers place which is 1 km south of the airport, west side of the highway. Look for a very long block wall and large gate. Fili does mig and tig and has a plasma cutter, as well as pipie/tube benders. He is a pro welder, engine re builder and skilled mechanic. His assistant is also highly skilled. 5 stars outa 5.

Bump, Looking for a mecanico in Cabo San Lucas. Have 1997 Nissan pathfinder hesitating on acceleration 2000RPM+ only when the A/C is on.
Guessing it may be fuel filter or a spark plug. Trying to avoid the dealership.

I have a good mecanico in La Mision (between Roso/Ensenada).

Mark Dastoli has fixed both my vehicles at good value, 1/2 USA cost.

I used Ramon in Todos Santos for a very similar problem. Ended up being a failing fuel pump. Ramon took a day to diagnose the issue, which entailed removing the fuel tank in order to verify after ruling out all other systems. I had to fly back for the part (1990 range rover) and he kept my car, FULL of my gear, in his shop safe. 3 days later I was back with the part. He installed it, and charged me $150 out the door. Very honest guy, great mechanic.

Can you give a phone number and directions to Ramon? I really like reading stories like this. Good man to know.

Coachworthy: if you find a mechanic in CSL, please post a name, number, directions and your experience. Thanks!

3 years ago I had a mechanic here in Punta Banda check all the hoses, belts, plugs, etc. on my Yukon before my trip to Canada. He also told me that the pressure on my fuel pump was a little low so I told him to go ahead and replace it.

He got an aftermarket one from a parts store in Ensenada. Don't remember the cost but it went out on my trip home with only 2500 miles on it. Had to get towed into GMC dealer where they out in a genuine GMC part for around $600 and gave me the failed one to return to the mechanic. I told him what happened and asked him to return it for a refund.

About a month later I asked him about my refund and he told me that they had given HIM a credit for next time he bought parts from them. When I asked how that would work as far as getting me a refund he said "No, that is my credit and not yours. His name is Chuy and his shop is in La Jolla camp.

OK, I found a decent one in San Jose del Cabo, Lomas del Rosarito. I had a spark plug fail and they replaced all the plugs(was due) and the part that sends signal to plugs (ignition control module?) and a fuel filter. $200

They specialize in Nissan and Toyota. Car is running fine now, rough idle at times, but I hope the computer adjusts it out. It seems fixed and price seemed about right. Used NGK plugs. Showed me the old parts.

Since this thread is recently active thought I would give a shout out to Bukovecz Km 136 Carretera Mulege.

Recently gave them dumb blonde carte blanche to fix cooling system and what I thought was brakes. Got an emailed estimate before they started work, no money up front taken for parts when offered, new water pump and wheel bearings (wasn't brakes after all) and labour charge was equivalent to about one hour in Canada. Plus instructions to bring it in again if I was not happy with the work, old parts shown to me. I highly recommend these guys.
