Punta San Jacinto shipwreck-al Barco

When visiting Casa del Hogar recently we decided to drive a little further down the road and see the shipwreck. It's only a few minutes drive, and worth the time.

The ship Isla del Carmen was wrecked over 30 years ago and rumored to be for insurance reasons, but who knows. We pulled into the yard filled with pangas, and no one bothered us.

Nice looking point for surfing when the swell is up, this day it was almost flat.

This was another item checked off the to do list.

This is San Juanico in northern Baja, just follow the signs and drive to the beach, you can't miss it. As for surf, I'll pass.
30 years ago you could read the name of the ship as it laid on it's side.

It's about 5 miles north of Camalu, and about 14 miles south of Colonet.

Plenty of other spooky weird mushburger waves around that area too. Hah... Always seems like its socked in with fog too. Last time I was in that area my axle broke, the fog never cleared and it reeked of dead animals. Came to find there was a blue whale carcass on the beach. I still can't wait to go back!

From the Baja Adventure Book (page 120) 1998 edition:

KM 150: Sedan road west (signed) to Punta San Jacinto, 6 miles. The wreck of a coastal freighter Isla del Carmen, driven ashore in 1981, lives near the point. Known as "Freighters" to surfers, even thouigh there is only one, this place has excellent right point breaks on large swells, some a mile from shore. The road south to Camalú can handle sedans.
