Lo siento - You can use SENTRI to enter the US from the NEXUS lanes, but cannot use it to enter Canada through the NEXUS lanes - misread the requirements

Actually, SENTRI is not valid for entry into the US from Canada. NEXUS is the US/Canada program. Global Entry allows you to use NEXUS lanes

This website explains the differences:

The answer, as far as I can tell, is that Global Entry is limited to U.S. Citizens and Permanent Residents and citizens of 9 other countries (not including Mexico). Sentri is available to anyone. Sentri includes Global Entry benefits, so the Sentri card is good for TSA Pre expedited screening and expedited CBP processing for airport arrivals, as well as the Sentri lane when land crossing into the U.S. That said, from the perspective of U.S. citizens, Global Entry looks preferable -- slightly cheaper, shorter wait for approval. If you have Global Entry instead of Sentri, you still have to register your vehicle with CBP in order to use the Sentri lanes. https://www.cbp.gov/travel/trusted-traveler-programs/global-...

Interesting you say this as I used my Sentri to enter Canada both ways last fall. Never a word from the Officer. They say Sentri is the same as Global and I have travelled as recently as two weeks ago internationally without problems

Actually, yes it is a savings for your first time.

SENTRI is $125 per person plus $42 for each vehicle

Goes is $100 per person plus $42 for each vehicle

If you have SENTRI and want to switch to Global Entry before your SENTRI expires, your vehicle is already registered in the Trusted Traveler system, no further action is necessary

If you apply for Global Entry and you are not already in the Trusted Traveler system, yes, you have to register your vehicles ($42 each) when you are filling out the Global Entry application

That would sure negate any dollar savings if its your first time around the block.

Mine was 125 dollars for the SENTRI plus my vehicle. I just did it. Its only if you add the vehicle later that you get charged extra.

GOES is your on line CBP account

When you open your account on the first page you are given a choice to renew SENTRI or apply for Global Entry

Your GOES account has all of the information you entered for your SENTRI. If nothing has changed, no worries, just scroll through the pages. If you have any changes, enter them and complete the process

I have to renew SENTRI this winter. How do you go about enlisting in GOES instead of SENTRI? Is the choice presented to you when you go into online SENTRI account?

GOES is changing this weekend to an all new website. If you have any pending transaction you had better check now.

Ok so is it my understanding that Sentri has all the benefits of Global entry except entry from Canada?

GOES is the website to apply for SENTRI or Global entry. It is not a permit.

Before I knew that Global Entry & Sentri were almost the same, I started the process of renewing my Sentri card. It expires in March, 2018, so I submitted the renewal application in May, 2017. 4 months later (mid-September, 2017), I received the e-mail approval from Sentri that I have been conditionally approved and that I need to make an appointment to go into one of the Sentri offices (Otay Mesa, San Ysidro or Calexico) for my renewal interview. Appointments aren't available until early November.

Although familiar, it seems so cumbersome compared to Global Entry; nevertheless, I'm playing along and I have an appointment scheduled for late November in Otay Mesa. Was too afraid that I'd somehow lose my benefits if I didn't renew . I'm also enrolled in Global Entry which I use for Pre-Check as well as the kiosks when I arrive on an international flight; when I originally enrolled they were separate programs. I was worried that by letting Sentri lapse I could lose Global Entry.

Not sure why they didn't just have me renew through Global Entry, or tell me that the 2 programs were now combined & that a Sentri renewal wasn't necessary. Anyway, it's a few hours of inconvenience but at least I'll still be in both programs.
