Well that's my objection. Sounds academic--which is likely to turn off the average Bajaficionado/a--although it isn't.

Well, that was my term... Antonio never called it that... It really is Wilderone's baby... So, let's see what she has to say about the name... We do have some great books to get it started... Everyone coming to the big town festival July 22-24 should try and bring a desert, sea, or Baja related book not yet on the list... if they can.

At Barnes and Noble tonight I bought a copy of Baja California and its Missions by Tomas Robertson, La Siesta Press c1978... I was surprised to find it there! Anyway, I already have this fine book and bought it for the Baja Cactus library... will deliver it to El Rosario tomorrow night.

Since I'm coming to the Cultural Faire in July, thought I'd accumulate more books for the library. So I bought 18 from Alibris.com, online - free shipping!!
Also, Antonio envisions a wonderful library, which will also have books for sale, where Baja authors can offer them for sale, and will also be a library for the El Rosario citizens as well, with other subject matter besides Baja-related. So although it will serve as a point for research with it's abundance of Baja-related subjects, including historical, geographical and biological, it will also contain books for citizens and hotel guests, generally. I occasionally run into best sellers in Spanish, which I buy too, for this purpose.
"Baja California and its Missions by Tomas Robertson, La Siesta Press c1978... " - wonderful addition - thanks, David.

Additional titles:
Sea Kayaking - Johan Loots
Essentials of Sea Kayaking - ?
Angler's guide to baja california - Tom Miller
Friendly whales - a Whalewatchers' guide to the gentle gray whales of
Baja Ca - Roy NIckerson
Air and fire - Thomson, Rupert
Almost an Island - travels in Baja CA - Bruce Berger
Southern CA and BAja - Judy Wade
A field guide to pacific coast fishes of No America - Gulf of Alaska to Baja CA - William Eschmeyer
The Baja Book II - Tom Miller
Discoverying the geology of Baja CA : six hikes on the so. gulf coast - Markes Johnson
Frommer's great outdoor guide to So CA and Baja - Andrew Rice
Beaches of Baja - Walt Wheelock
Due South Los Cabos - Stephanie Marceau
The Other Side - Journeys in Baja CA - Judy Botello
Baja California - William Johnson - Time LIfe book
Baja journey - reveries of a sea kayaker - Robin Carey
The Baja Adventure Book - Walt Peterson
Also picked up another No. American birds book
and I'll throw in my Life of John Muir

Antonio is planning to show off the collection of books, to be displayed on some shelves being made. They will not be available for reading just yet...

A reading/research room is planned for the future.

Please bring any Baja, desert, ocean, etc. subject books to the festival you can donate for this library.

Updated book list

Wilderone and others

I added the books Wilderone is taking for the El Rosario book library to the ongoing list (to the list on my computer) and will repost a new update in a day or two.

Has anyone added any other books recently that aren't shown on the list several posts up?

If you can take the time to put the author and date of publication with your titles it will make our list more accurate.

I should have taken a photo of the huge custom bookcase in the lobby at Baja Cactus last weekend! It will contain the books once Antonio has a safe system or hospitality room, so the books don't 'get lost' once they become available for viewing.

BajaCactus must have found a better home in the motel for the books. The bookcase was empty a few days ago.

The books will NOT be stored at the motel until a SECURE system for viewing them is devised... The bookcase is huge... I will get a photo of it this weekend when I am there...

No one wants any of these valuable Baja treasures to become 'lost'.

If you want to borrow a book while you are staying at the motel or resting in the future hospitality lounge (on your way south), you will probably have to provide some kind of guarantee or deposit. Antonio will come up with something good. I am sure we can convince Antonio to get a coin operated copy machine...

Not to worry my friend Neal...

All the books are safe and well guarded at the moment.

I have been making reference cards for each and everyone you have so kindly donated...so, everyone can have a better idea of the book they want to see prior to asking for it.

Also, I am working on a VERY secure and safe way to lend them...we do not want any of them to get lost.

The book showcase at the BajaCactus Motel lobby is ready and waiting for it to be filled, we even put a couple of custom made chairs...but it has been my fault there is nothing in there yet...

Also my architect is modifying the third stage of construction of the motel to include a full size library.

I apologize for not being more agile in this matter... I just do not want to mess it up...and besides... I have also been extremely busy finishing up the installation of the high speed satellite connection at BajaCactus....this is almost done...in 2-3 weeks at the most will be up and running...and then I will have more free time to finish the library project.

No problem with that copy machine David... easily done.

I wish to deeply thank everyone helping in putting this library together...I believe we will make a very nice project of this.

Antonio M.

The collection keeps growing with your donation/ contribution of a Baja or related book/ magazine.

The future hospitality room will likely be the location of the library. The books are being kept safe until a system is devised that will keep the books from 'growing legs'.

Check the list that John M made above, and if you have something to add, bring it down this weekend and enjoy the festival.

Antonio is treating all Nomads to a special dinner Saturday afternoon at the motel!

Newest combined book list

Keeping tabs on what has been donated, here is what I have as the most current list.

When we were last in El Rosario I talked with Antonio about these things. He is still as enthused as the rest of us. His concern is that the books don't grow legs and wander off into the wilds of Baja.

The custom built bookcase is a dandy.

Thanks John.

The author of 'Baja Legends' is Greg Niemann, if you care to add that...

Great book all Baja enthusiasts should have, fairly new (c2002), published by Sunbelt. I had the honor of being one of the proof readers when Greg was ready to send the m/s to Sunbelt.
