Ultra low sulphur diesel????

It is true that sulfur in the fuel has lubricating qualities so ulsd is formulated to replace the sulfur with other chemical lubricants. According to the standard set for ulsd, it's lubricating qualities should be superior to the old lsd. There was a lot of gloom and doom speculation when ulsd first appeared on the market, claiming all sorts of problems for the older engines, but the predicted disaster doesn't seem to have materialized.

There's an excellent blind study of the lubricating qualities of fuel additives in the "Fluids" section on www.dieselplace.com. It shows that many popular fuel additives actually DECREASE the lubricating qualities of the fuel despite claims on the label to the contrary and only a few actually do improve the lubricating qualities. The surprise result of the blind testing was a small amount of a oil added to the fuel is better than any of the additives.

The owners' manuals for the new diesels state not to add anything to the fuel or the oil. Doing so can create more than the ideal amount of ash and clog the DPF more quickly.

P.S.
Until early 2007 I had an F550 Powerstroke. Now I have a 2008 Silverado 3500 HD with the Duramax engine. The improvement over the 1999 Ford is astonishing in ride, power, and the Alison transmission. For a short time prior to getting the 2008, I had a 2007.5 2500HD Silverado. It too was an amazing powerhouse - it converted me to GM.

(That should start a big debate, tee hee).

It is a fairly expensive test, $125.00 and only tests for S in ppm. Thus I have decided to wait until i can get to El Rosario and pull a sample from there. My hope is this sample can be compared to any data Baja Cactus might have.

September is the earliest I might make it that way, but early goose season in North Dakota, 5 days offshore to Baja islands, local tuna and dorado action, pheasant season coming soon too, it might not be untill November before I get there. But I will get there and take the sample and post the results when i do.
