Hair donor and donee (donee???) generally do not meet.... and that's always the case with locks of love.

Until recently I actually donated most of my hair to a local woman who made wigs for folks who'd lost their hair due to chemo. The wigmaker occasionally came to the shop where I have my hair cut... and we got to know one another... and as things do happen, one day she made a wig of my hair for her friend's daughter. The girl was so pleased, begged to thank me in person. So her mom arranged a meeting. It was neat but also very emotional. I understand why it is not generally done.

Sharksbaja - 12-7-2007 at 08:32 PM

NOT when you do megadoses of certain vitamins. I had an employee who prepped our vegetables daily. I wondered why our fresh-cut veggies were turning blackish like bruises.
I asked him if he had taken any anti-oxidants or such and he told me he stops at Circle K every day and gets a packet of those mixed supplements before work. The problem ceased as soon as he quit his regime.

Everyone, please no more lipstick! Call Dr. Tom, there's a cure for that!

Birkenstocks are not just for lefties! Wore my black ones with black sox to work today. That's formal ware for me. Only wear the browns with white sox in the privacy of my own home (or maybe for a quick run to the grocery without makeup early on Sunday morning). :)

I'm glad the pedantic minutia wavelength has been hijacked while I was gone. A lot has occurred while I was out living a life.

It took me a long time to get back because I had to go shopping for new sandals to wear. My dog ate my old ones and the new ones broke. I can't wear black socks either because my legs are too tan. They go better with pasty white legs, plaid shorts and black shoes. I've decided on a thong and bow tie. I'm on my way to paint the town red. I'm not worried about tomorrow morning but I will probably wake up feeling kinda ocher. :barf:

Maintaining Standard and Reputation

MrBillM - 12-8-2007 at 10:07 AM

Staying (or straying) within the "Spirit" of the thread while at the same time living up to Morgaine's comment, I have this irresistible urge to weasel politics into each thread.

On that note, I saw yesterday where Ron Paul's campaign has come up with the idea of using a Blimp to skirt campaign finance laws wherein people would "purchase" advertising on the Blimp rather than make a contribution.

The earlier news that Ron Paul had garnered the support and endorsement of the Moonlight Bunny Ranch leads to a catchy tie-in. As an advertising move, they could call the Airship "The Moonlight Bunny-We leave You Limp" Blimp.

Just a thought.

In another shining thought given the extent to which negative campaign advertising continually makes statements that are completely false, I think the Federal Elections Commission needs to form a committee to address those outright lies. They could call it the Federal Election Candidates Evaluation Supervision, to be known by its acronym FECES.

On a more important note, my favorite shoes for years have been Low-Back MacGregor "Courts" because they have the least decoration. No Black Slashes or other crap, just white shoes with the name on the heel. They're hard to find at times so I buy in multiples. And, I never wear shoes without socks. Sandals without socks ARE OK when heading for the water.

Be advised, The wind this a.m. started out Westerly, but has now turned Easterly so we are now on a Lee Shore.

HotSchott - 12-8-2007 at 10:46 AM

Have you ever been to get your hair cut at the local beauty shop? There is this Asian lady in my neighborhood - Carol - and she does nails and hair and eyebrows and I don't know what else. But anyway, I stopped going to my regular barber because he is on an Oxygen Bottle and it just bugs the hell out of me to have him doing Darth Vader while he is cutting my hair. So I go in this neighborhood 'beauty' salon place and ask If I can get a hair cut. The owner lady, Carol, says "you sit ova daya in da chaya". So a couple minutes later she is done torturing one Mexican lady with three bored kids and comes over to me. "Wha chu wan?" I reply "I want the seven dollar haircut." She says "OK, wha chu wan I do?" I said "It's real easy, number four on top and three on the sides".

So she is off to the races and turns my chair back to face the rest of the torture shop, I mean salon. There are two other women lying back in chairs that I thought were getting their hair done. Upon closer inspection I observed something I hope I never see again. One of the young ladies sitting back in the chair was having some paste applied to her forehead. As I sat there stunned, an older Asian woman pulled gently at the corner of one of this gals eyebrows which was covered in this pasty stuff which had become hard. In one horrific instant the old Asian woman ripped a four inch strip of this pasty stuff off this woman's head and removed her Unibrow. I mean the white stuff came off with almost as much hair as I have on my entire head in less than a micro second.

Now I have seen some cruel stuff in my time, but dude that was so far over the top I almost launched out of my chair. The physical pain must have been rediculous for that young lady and she didn't make a sound. I am all for cultural experiences, but no freekin way am I going back in there. She finished my buzz, I paid my ten bucks and said "keep the change." Never again. I am finding someplace else with a little less hair ripping going on.

Watching a segment on 1980s tech the other night, there was a discussion with Steve Wozniak regarding the failed Lisa project which turned out to be too expensive for the market.

He mentioned that the ONE Megabyte of memory used in the Lisa retailed at $5000 ($10K in today's dollars).

That would place the cost of One Gigabyte usually found in today's PCs at TEN MILLION Dollars.

We sure wouldn't be doing this nonsense, would we ?

Al G,
I don't think anyone cares about your third Pacifico. Not that I'm being cold hearted, it's because no one cared that I was (supposedly) drinking a rum and coke at 7:30 this morning.

I think alcohol consumption has come to be an expected norm on this board. In my first post this morning regarding Grover's monkey, I mentioned that I spit my refreshment all over the key board. It really was coffee, honestly it was. I only said Rum and Coke for the negative attention I thought I would get. But Nooooo. Not even that.

Lera,

That is a tough question, and i wanted to take some time and think before answering. Doing the Right Thing is always important.

I think that most people don't ever see the underside of a table, and those who do are probably not paying attention.;D But when painting a room, especially one that hasn't been painted before, I usually paint the underside of the top of the room. And that space under a table may smeday serve as a "room" to small child at play.

I like Elizabeth's idea of doing a miniature of the Sistine ceiling on the underside. I think art in secret places is quite interesting, don't you?

This reminds me of the Christmas Card I recieved...Cannot show it...HoseA would yell by U2U...but The 10 ladies in Santa Claus suits had a caption at the bottom that said "Breast wishes for Christmas"
Did I say suit...pants and hat anyway..

Dear Paula,
Have you ever considered turning the table upside down, so the paint doesn't drip down your arm.:P:P
Also would make a chapel type painting more simple
I realize this is hard to do with a room, but, however, if you had enough tequila..............:?::?::?:

I noticed, too, Paulina. But I remembered that awhile back you told us you were gonna dress up and ring the Salvation Army Bell or something like that, with Cora and her reindeer bonnet.... and I was thinking about you out there in your Mrs. Santa suit with all that length of hair newly cut... and I just figured a rum and coke was exactly! in order.... so I silently said "you go girl". ;D:biggrin::dudette:
