gnukid. I am sure that you can figure out how to u2u me. Try again.

Before you go to any more Trouble go over to the Mission and check out the occupants of the Large White Building that sets behind it. If you do not know who occupies that building then do a Google search and it might help you.

Its just an old Texas saying when we would kid each other that we Liked.

I remembered it one day and repeated it to Natalie. No story here.

As I reread all of this Large Thread, my mind asks: Why, When ,What, Where, and How??

Is gnukid on of those Modern day Graduates of the Social Welfare School of Berkeley?

Is ole Skeet really "Cantankerous" even through he is Actively engaged in his Community.

Is gnukid with his great writing Ability, trying to Scare People with his Words?

Has some of those "New Proffessors" changed History that people like Gnukid could read a Book like "Blood and Fire". or Tio and Ann O'Neils Book on Loreto, or Black Robes of Calif. and not be able to relate that to the Power Structure of Mexico.

Could Gnukid find out who lead the Revloution in Mexico? Does he Know who the Founding members of the Parliment which made Baja Sur a State??
They are still Alive and Well.

I am beginning to wonder the Background of Gnukid, What is his Schooling,
his Experiences?? Where does he come From?? etc.

Glad I was not Able to Delete this right after its Posting. It is interesting for me, Thats for Sure, !

Skeet

I am not involved as a victim or otherwise here and I feel uncomfortable about your approach but you have made a national incident here so here for the record here is the data available to you and any others who wish to investigate. Please do not make this worse than it already is by accosting the victims.

You have pushed this into the gutter and have made no effort whatsoever to demonstrate reason or compassion to those pacenos who suffered here. All of the victims are well known people of fine families in good standing, who were targeted. It is unfortunate for the bad cops but fortunate for us that some people with a long tradition here were victimized and are speaking up.

Skeet you have failed to keep your word regarding your approach, or to show up, and you have attempted to deride my integrity for no reason other than possibly your own ego and sentiment.

If you had any investigating skills and were concerned of my whereabouts you could hack the web access log do a reverse name lookup on the posting I make which are logged and note my ip address location is among those assigned to this region. Furthermore the image posted contains exif data which shows the date and time etc...

Regarding your query--two can play at that game--behind the public market is --publico sanitarios--public bathrooms.

Bookstores you may be thinking of--Mexsense, Allende Books, Mission Biblioteca?

Sport shop--Not sure which you mean--tres Hermanos, Mas, "Sport shop" near malecon is closed, Baja King still is there I am not sure which you mean.

Now you start answering some questions here:

Who is the father of the panga and a founder of one of La Paz' traditonal marinas?

Who is attributed wit discovering La Paz?

Which american raised the US flag in La Paz?

Which fish taqueria owner is also the father of the Baja Mil?

Now according to the official police report.

On January 22, at about 3am, on the streets Las Calles de Torre Iglesia entre Durango y Chiapas numero 112, identificador 014133437760 the captain of waiters C. Jorge Garcia Chavez working with 6 policia locked the doors of the club and approached two norteamericanos demanding $12541 pesos for having had drinks over the previous two hours.

Four of the police officers backed down and made comments that this was wrong and left. Two policia remained, Raymundo Quintana Saucedo and Jesus Alejandro Gonzalez Lara--one wearing a sandanista mask.

These two agents took the victims in their truck supposedely to go to a bank to get money but instead they proceeded to drive rapidly over bumps and through arroyos, bouncing around like ping pong balls causing injury.

The two officers stopped at various police stations attempting to intimidate the victims finaly stopping at a small subcommandancia on Miguel L. de Legaspy where they put into a small jail cell and told they needed to raise more than the $12541 plus multas for each agent and the commandantes.

Many commandantes of other departments were called on behalf of the well known victims by friends and family.

After much shenanigans a payment of $3000 pesos per was negotiated and witnessed by a military commandante and the commandante in charge of central command on Colima and Mexico.

An abbreviated report and in no way 100% accurate was provided by concerned police at the station that morning identifying the police and the manager accused of extortion.

5 separate witnesses exist including. Of course everyone is scared to testify against corrupt police, however many have asked the commandante at central command that night for a reasonable explanation and an investigation is underway into the behavior of the police named in the report.

This is just an example of the type of things that happen at the direction and complicity of the current agentes de la policia.

The "official" report is attached. Now go do some good and apologize to us.

gnukid - 2-1-2008 at 03:30 PM

Remember this report is in no way 100% accurate-- it says two people paid $3000 pesos under the direction of these two police agents as though they paid a bill--period, it is a gift or attempt to protect that good cops from the bad cops. Meaning the good cops got scared and began to backtrack and implicate each other. The report is the beginning point of the investigation.

Maybe some of you should think of ways you might help those who find themselves being kidnapped and extorted as opposed to making jokes.

Gnukid, If you listened to the Yachtie net in the morning you would find that this is not the first time this has happened, and they advise people not to be out in the early hours of the morning with excess cash or walking not in a straight line.
because you are an easy mark.

gnukid - 2-1-2008 at 04:08 PM

I HAVE NOT BEEN A VICTIM. THIS IS HAPPENING OFTEN TO OTHER PEOPLE.

Focus readers. Small problem. Kidnapping and Extortion in La Paz.

When it happens don't pay, stay very calm and wait it out, don't say anythig mean or foolish ad when sunrise hits they'll let you go if not sooner.

Memorize names, places and events. Then make a report with the police and pursue it.

David K - 2-1-2008 at 04:23 PM

Thanks Gnukid, now please ask the victims of this crime spree to join Baja Nomad and tell us themselves, first hand is best... Gracias!

Thanks for the Picture! Did you also get a Picture of the White Building?

If this Thread has come to the Attention of the Press and Authorties like it did when the "Surfers" started Boycotting Rosarita Beach then You and I have Stirred an Awful Lot Interest in the Peaceful Good City of La Paz.

There are other reports that tell a Different Story. I will not post the information from those reports.

Please go back and look where I stated that the report I received was not "As you related"".

Hint; Go back and check with your Friends about the Occurances Prior to the Police getting involved.

You and your Friends should go to the Governor's Office. Please take a copy of your Report. You will be well received.Skeet/Loreto

Comitan: Who do you think will win the Seat??

Skeet

gnukid - 2-1-2008 at 04:54 PM

Skeet,

I am a simple person, I don't go to clubs or get into trouble but I do keep an eye on my friends. This was a setup of the type known as the "jaimaca game", a local befriends you and then offers to buy you a drink and a short time later police arrive, lock the doors and extortion begins.

In this case, the manager, the cops, the commandante and many others were complicit in some serious crimes to extort to norteamericanos who are long time residents. The victims are actually very nice people who are well known and well liked. Other victims include a major developer of projects in La Paz.

It became immediately clear to the cops involved that they were digging themselves a deep hole. The phones were ringing and commandantes were arguing, so they each began to turn on each other, finally leaving the two named as responsible.

Clearly, the two policia named are only pawns in a game and many commandantes are complicit in the game which occurs almost every day.

All the government knows about these crimes that happen, and especially of this case, they are not moved to actions because it wont happen to them, only to norteamericanos.

The only one who can address this is the licensio de investigaccions de coruptos y deliquentos en la policia minesterio in charge of internal investigations of policia minesterial and he appears to be very afraid to do anything and so that leaves few options except to talk about it, communicate that we don't want to live like this in La Paz. We must believe that we can live together and support each other. We don't bad cops hassling good people and it has got to stop.

I have done more than my share for now. The good cops gave the gift of identifying the bad guys now it is up to the internal investigators.

After the election the new presidente will likely just have these two pawns fired but it wont stop the problem.

Its disgusting.

Hook - 2-1-2008 at 04:54 PM

This IS getting tedious...............

gnukid - 2-1-2008 at 04:59 PM

Well can we at least stop the denials and acknowledge that there is a problem that should be addressed with complicity to kidnap and extort norteamericanos and apparently some of the perps work in teams along with restaurant managers.

Finally, could you all please stop insulting those who report crimes and those who are victims just because you weren't. That is not a logical progression.

comitan - 2-1-2008 at 05:03 PM

Skeet

This time around I haven't been taking and interest all your Mexican friends know, Ha! Many of them have their jobs at stake so difficult time for some.

stanburn - 2-1-2008 at 05:36 PM

This is all very entertaining and as I have said before GnuKid's stories remind me alot of my oldest son's stories where everything happened to him and he didn't do anything. I didn't believe it then and I don't buy it now.

Yes, Gnukid I know from your perspective this post isn't helpful, but I just can't get over the fact that you have all of these wild stories that no one else living in La Paz has and the fact (yes I know you saw it) that none of those involved in all of these stories (not just this one) can post a single sentence about it. Not even a "yes it is true, it was me and I don't want to identify myself.

Cervisin - 2-1-2008 at 10:05 PM

No, I'm just looking how deep the BS is - regular rubber boots don't do anymore, fisherman leggings or a wet suit is called for....

tripledigitken - 2-2-2008 at 01:13 AM

did this incident occur at Lord Blacks? Now this is getting really interesting.

Ken

Cervisin - 2-2-2008 at 06:53 AM

Yep, Ken - new readers might get lost here since the thread name changed - the original thread, with fractions deleted - was this:
Puros Coruptos: el sangre de La Paz

Then it been 3 guys, inclusive a developer, that went to a "RESTAURANT" for a few drinks and got screwed now, 2 weeks later we got 2 guys left and the "RESTAURANT" is Lord Black.

The gnuguy is spelling his flossom here and actually participating in that thread is against logic + reason since he's to my opinion an attention prostitute that likes to stir the pot and see who takes the bait.

On the other site: somebody new might find that thread by a search for La Paz or Baja info, considers Baja Nomad a reasonable source for information and believes that basura.

I'm not denying corruption and some rotten apples in the police basket but this here is blown way, way out of proportion.

I'm not retired and cant spend time to "investigate" yet I have a few connections in the media in La Paz and made a few phone calls. So far:

Canal 8 - know nothing

Canal 10 - know nothing

Sudcaliforniano - know nothing

Peninsula - know nothing

Mexico Unido Contra La Delincuencia (www.mucd.org.mx) - know nothing.
(And that connections are not the cleaning lady and some of them guys real like to get facts to publish it..... )

So, I assume, that must be all so secret that originator of that trash might have to kill us after giving us "facts" so we can watch out where to go.

Don't need to watch out when going to Lord Black - it's an pudero and being overcharged at places like that is quiet common and not limited to La Paz or Mexico. Mostly it's not even overcharged but the guy's order but no ask what they get and what it cost, If it ever happened - maybe being drunk and then big-mouth the police - oh well, I'm not sorry for them guy's at all. Establishments like that are not comparable to a strip joint or table dance place in the states yet services offered when having the "private dance" go way further and at other location this is called a brothel.....

When i came mid 80' to the states i worked 1/2 year or so as bouncer at Dirty Dan's - we had this kind of accusations at least 1 time a week (overcharge) - mainly from guy's that had a hard time explaining there wifes or girlfriends where the money went. Some incredible stories been dished out then...

And we had to call police or shore-patrol at times and them guy's been "very smart" in there statements with them cops also... guess what - they got what they deserved.... from them.

In general - I question that report and will spend some more time when available finding out

For newbies that ready all of that: don't believe that crap about La Paz - you are here as safe as in any other place if you stick within the brackets common sense gives you.

And for all the nomads that read that thread: keep in mind the statement about the olives a few pages back - think global and buy your olives local!! I mean when the guy writes somethings that makes sense: more power to him.....:bounce:

gnukid - 2-2-2008 at 08:53 AM

Look this was one incident, among many, one day in La Paz. Just like many other days . Some nice people got hassled. The police gave an identification of the cops and manager who pulled the stunt.

Its very emotional for those who were violated and apparently for the readers as well.

I am not trying to convince you of anything. I am only saying what I know to be factual and my experience.

Why this makes everyone go into a tizzy and do everything except actually ask for a explanation from the police on duty that day and insist there are lies is beyond me.

Cops made many many mistakes that day. They arrived before the incident with masks, they abused the victims, they lied about where they were going and tried to hide the victims, they asked for many times more than than the original amount, the played many games of obsfucation.

It is clear that it happened to all and that these things are part of the system and something we encounter here.

Cervesin, The people involved on some days have been able to speak about and some days they felt too scared and intimidated and deleted the report.

Apparently its a bad idea to look for support here because you wont find it.

Look, what it comes down to is what would you do, if you lived in a town where some rogue cops hassled you. Everyones reaction here speaks to the issue. Its not easy to speak about extortion. Its not easy to talk about it in your own neighborhood, its not easy to handle it for many people.

Finding proactive ways to deal with corruption would be helpful.

There have been no lies in this report.

[Edited on 2-2-2008 by gnukid]

gnukid - 2-2-2008 at 08:58 AM

Cervesin,

Even though I live close to Lord Black I have never been in there. Nor have been to any gentlemens club. I referer to it as a club or restaurant because I believe it is.

Yes it should be clear apparently some people have trouble there according to many reports.

The incident with another friend who is a developer happened the same week at a different location. Apparently he is smarter and richer than me and too smart to say anything in public.

Look we are dealing with it. It will be addressed, things happen slowly here and truly it is not a srious enough crime to warrent jail time in these parts of the world. Its just part of life.

Be careful, have fun and enjoy the weekend.

gnukid - 2-2-2008 at 09:04 AM

And to Skeet and everyone, I in no way reported to you what happened because I hate La Paz, its quite the opposite, I love La Paz and so do all my neighbors and friends and we would like to stop these stupid crimes by rogue cops.

If we did we would give a fantastic gift to La Paz just like the nice cops that identified the bad cops and manager in this report.

If you want to help your town, you might need to identify the simple problems and go after them. It might not be fun. But its not hard to do if you love your town, we are going after the manager of Lord Black and the two bad cops who play this game.

We are not going to let these happen here.

[Edited on 2-2-2008 by gnukid]

Cap - 2-2-2008 at 09:29 AM

I had given up on this thread, because I felt it had deteriorated to the point of ridiculous. Now I read that this all happened early morning hours at a "gentlemans club".

The point of all of this is to warn people that drinking in the red light district, may lead to a bigger tab than one intended, and a ride in a cop car? Thanks for the news flash.

And furthermore the the La Paz local gnu guy says he doesn't know that Lord Blacks is not a restraunt.
I guess all the signs and flyers with the naked lady sillouhette on them were too subtle.:light:

looking for empathy, or support for the so called victims and stirring up all this trouble isn't really being a good citizen in this community. Save your lectures, mind your own garden

Are you so cynical?

Do you believe that anyone deserves to be victimized in planned out scam of kidnapping and extortion? This is not okay, not here or anywhere.

Its as important that we address the collusion between the manager and the cops and the police capitan in this case as any case.

People of La Paz should feel free to visit La Paz free from fear of rogue cops, let alone the financial extortion and kidnapping and physical abuse.

Cap, It really doesn't matter that you think its fine where you live.

It's not fine with the people who live here. Not for one minute.

And at least for now, be aware of this at LordBlack.

gnukid - 2-2-2008 at 09:53 AM

One case, one day, one problem, the difference is the rogue cops got identified. Its not easy.

Cap - 2-2-2008 at 10:13 AM

gnu, you are very important for living abroad. Thank you for gracing us with reports of official misdeeds in strip clubs. You are truly doing noble work. I apologize for being cynical, and suggesting that people that frequent these establishments should pay cash as you go for drinks and other activities.

Of course, the question might be asked why a knowledgable local, such as yourself, allowed these nice people to get in such a predicament in the first place. I have personally pulled many passengers, and foolish drunk tourists out of jams like this.

Again, you are very cool and important for living in La Paz.

Skeet/Loreto - 2-2-2008 at 10:22 AM

This is for the "Youngster".

Oh so many years ago in one of my many Visits to the "Night Life" of La Paz, there was a Place across the Street from the Public Market where you could get a Good Drink, Get a Good Nite of Dancin, and spend the rest of the Night in Bed with the Dancin Lady of your Choice. $20 plus the Drinks.

In the morning a Taxi would pull up to the Hotel and Transport the Young Lady Home.

Me thinks that the "Young One" has many College Degrees but very Little Actual Experience in "LIFE"!

Skeet

Okay so now if you don't visit prostitutes you don't know about life?

There was no sex involved here, nor was there in the similar circumstances the night before and the night after that were reported. Its a story about a scam, one among many, it is a sophisticated well planned kidnapping and extortion.

Look don't try to justify what is injustifiable and a too common occurance.

I think a better point to make is, "if you rob good people they will talk about it and they won't come back, and you will get in trouble and lose your job and be held accountable to a judge."

gnu, you are very important for living abroad. Thank you for gracing us with reports of official misdeeds in strip clubs. You are truly doing noble work. I apologize for being cynical, and suggesting that people that frequent these establishments should pay cash as you go for drinks and other activities.

The problem reported was about a kidnapping and extortion

Of course, the question might be asked why a knowledgable local, such as yourself, allowed these nice people to get in such a predicament in the first place. I have personally pulled many passengers, and foolish drunk tourists out of jams like this.

The victims are citizens and good people of La Paz.

Again, you are very cool and important for living in La Paz.

Hmm I sense you're angry... We are not interested in being cool and important we are interested in stopping the cops from robbing people. I hope you are too.

gnukid, is there anything else you can post about in La Paz or Baja Sur? Is there any fishing, mission ruins, nice beaches, hiking trails, off road adventures, ANYTHING ELSE???:?::saint::rolleyes:

From the rules: "You agree not to post or transmit any ... harmful, threatening, abusive, harassing, defamatory...hateful... material of any kind"

In my opinion, this is harassing, defamatory, harmful, and distasteful. Gnukid, I don't know you, but you've shown quite a bit more class in the face of this siege of smugness and personal attack than I would have.

And to the moderators of this board - do threads like this, sustained over the course of a week, encourage people to speak freely and share information?

Great La Paz:
Some years ago I spent a Week in La Paz awaiting Mach Schoyer to cmplete my Panga "The Patricia". It was a Grand Time, spending my Days at the Cafe at the "La Perla" meeting all of the Mexican Businessmen and Women, the Sailboaters, sipping the Good Coffee, watching the Happy People going back and Forth.
Later , at Night, walking the Beach, listening to the small Waves hitting the Sand, stopping at the Ice Cream Shop.
Later when the Malacon was improved, setting on the Benches at the Pier, meeting and talking to Americanos and Mexicanos, as the "Night Girls" walked by, the Excerisers beating the Pavement, getting into Shape.

Oh! La Paz!! A Beautifull City!!

There is a more important message here David, that is what do we about the issue with rogue cops, how do we support each other and what methods do we use to pursue them.

We talked about it, use cameras, take names, locations, be polite but pursue it.

We need to be open minded, listen to others, think about what other's experiences are and question ourselves and how we interelate to these issues.

Is the code of silence a part of the problem? Is peer pressure not to report part of the problem? Is fear driving a continuation of rogue cops extorting people.

What can be done?

What can we do in these types of circumstances... rarely do people take time to remember locations, names, reason with higher ups to the degree that its obvious who is perpetrating small and large rip offs of norteamericanos and mexicanos alike.

Apparently few are willing to write down the data and work within police ranks to stop corruption.

The issue is integral to the changing nature of Baja.

Everyone is a powerful person, everyone can make a small gesture that would affect change. Simply by asking a question you can effect huge change and the time is now to participate, get involved. Simply by standing up even once to a rogue cop you will make difference.

It wouldn't hurt for anyone here, Skeet, Cervesin, David, to make a phone call or write a letter and ask what is happening at Lord Black, what is happening with the cops who pick up norteamericanos and play games to extort money. Just asking a few questions and listening would help.

The answers are less important than the gesture that people care, they are aware and if you rob people in Baja a bunch of people will ask questions and pursue it.

And yes we can all talk about adventure too.
