They say it will most likely hit land as a Cat 2.

We're about 100 miles north of the predicted landfall. I just got my weather station up and running it'll be interesting to see how much wind we get here.

baja-spirit - 10-9-2008 at 08:58 AM

Please keep us posted. Leaving for Baja Tuesday so we are keeping an eye on Norbert. Good Luck everyone in Baja, hope all turns out O.K.. I hate hurricanes!!!!

Russ - 10-9-2008 at 09:03 AM

10am and flat calm with a thin cloud cover. Oh, I was told we did get a shower last night. I did watch the light show from 1 to 1:30 and I guess I was sawing some large timber when it came down.
BigWooo, Weather stations are fun to watch during a storm. I have a Davis Pro2 and it's amazing. Have fun. Hope all goes well and no one has major problems during this event. Buena Suerte!

Anybody in the East Cape??? is there current/ongoing reports available from Nomads in the East Cape area... I have to cross the Buenas Aires Arroyo to get to my place and during/after storms that can be a challenge..

Katiejay99 - 10-9-2008 at 09:44 AM

10:42am Todos Santos - humid, light breeze picking up - I can see large white billowing clouds out over the Pacific Ocean south west. Mostly clear in TS with very high light cloud cover

BBP decided to go for it to San felipe today.
the rest of the weekend they are playing by ear and maybe venturing south as far as the leading edge of Norbert's outflow allows.

message to Fishbuck - if you are looking for some fun - bag the Asuncion trip, you'll get wet - but head to SF and party with some fun folks at El cortez. you can get in on the special rate, just say BBP BAM when you check in.

Pompano - 10-9-2008 at 04:35 PM

Hi all. After wandering a bit hither and *yon, I have just arrived back in Conception Bay and will be glad to join in with local 'Norbert' observations as they occur.

I can compare mine with Bob y Susan's...although it's common knowledge that they live in a notoriously 'wild' section of the Bay.

Right now I am busy making and stockpiling ice cubes for a potential hurricane party. Will look out at the Cortez in a bit. Hey, I can hear waves breaking on sea wall...or it's that damn new commode/bidet again?

*(passports and Kevlar clothing are required to visit yon)

Roger,
You have to show us the proper use of this Pooperwasher.
Never figured out what you do after it does its spraywash. Do you dry with paper :?:
Can't leave a towel in the room for general drying use.
Had to contend with them on European trips, but never had the nerve to ask the front desk for a demo.

Forgot to wish you luck with Norbert, although the high wind threat is quite a bit diminished. But I imagine we still have to contend with lots of the wet stuff.
BTW Welcome back.

bajajudy - 10-10-2008 at 06:49 AM

Calm and very cloudy. Dark clouds to the west and north.
I would guess that it will rain shortly.
TWC calls for rain and gusty winds(25-35) here today, tonight and tomorrow which is just about what I would expect.
I can hear the surf pounding from my porch.

Keep those reports from the tip coming amigos...it's really helpful to hear where the rain has started. Although NOrbert has cooled his jets...it's still nasty...be safe and smart!

10:00 am -Another day of hauling their lobster traps back to the beach in San Juanico. It looks like a lot of work but the guys seem to be taking Norbert seriously.

We're 100 miles outside the projected target area but the most current narrative update from the hurricane center upgrades it back to a category 2.

Currently calm, glassy and ocean's flat as a pancake.

Well Russ, it will be interesting to see how long everyone here will be transmitting. We have extreme heat and humidity here....rising swell (kids were surfing in town this morning)...all boats have been beached and I did see some lobster boats with traps aboard heading for the beach as is San Juanico. We have about 15 knots from the SSW. It is sunny but slightly overcast with clouds to the south. It will be an interesting night and mañana. I just made a pitaya margarita after tarping down all gypsies materials...their roof got on today. The campers are hunkered down at Campo Sirena ready to flee to Birddogs house if things get too stinky. There is a trepidation in the air around town...havent' seen any plywood going up yet though.
I feel for you all...I'm sure you are pretty anxious right about now...be safe, smar and suerte amigos.

Bob and jane - 10-10-2008 at 03:33 PM

We just drove down to the Loreto marina and the last of the pangas are being pulled out of the water. Some of the big construction sites are actually putting plywood over their windows. ISSTE was packed with people buying last minute provisions. The loudspeaker car was circling town warning people that Hurrican Norberto would be here tomorrow and everyone should stock up on water and food and flashlights and should secure their personal papers. We're as ready as we can be. I've pulled out all my partially melted candles and the flashlights. We've got food and water and alcohol. Everything that can become airborne is stowed and secure. Nothing to do but wait. And go to happy hour to talk about the hurricane before the streets turn to rivers.

I was thinking, it would be nice to get an hourly or every 2 hour updates from our onsite correspondents like Comitan,Morgaine, Russ, Vandenburg etc...if we can get a commitment from some...maybe set up a little team...then we will know when things are happening...for example if Comitan doesent report in, it's because his power is off(or he's mixing a drink!)....
. Something like that. It gets nerve racking when we need info and nobody is reporting in for several hours...makes me think the worst.
"Anyone have any suggestions how to do this...
maybe check ins at 8:00, 10:00 and 8:00 in the morning and every two hours. If we know we can rely on a team of reporters, we will be better informed....oh my, there I go trying to organize things again...blame my mother!
