What do you expect from a country that doesn't even have the technology to be be able to flush your TP instead of placing it in a waste basket by the toilet. Actually I've used this to judge how good a Mexican restaurant is in the US. If there's a buch of skid marked TP in the wastebasket it usually serves good food. I'm a bit of a leftie, but I think DK is a real asset to this site. I've learned more about Baja from his postings than anyone else's.

Thank you for that...

Some of my best friends are 'lefties'.

Despite what is posted here by people who never met me, I am very open minded and couldn't care less who you vote for or worship, etc. I just find it amazing how some here think only their side is okay to me mentioned... and if I (or others) provide some other point of view, all Hell breaks loose! So much for the open minded and tolerant left!:light:

'Fair and balanced' shouldn't make anyone nervous unless they plan on being unfair and keeping the masses in the dark.

Burnrope:
Try Baja Cactus next time for a real surprise in A-1 accomodations at a budget price... unlike anything in the central region of Baja (or most other places)! Awesome rooms, ammenities like satellite TV with several English channels, phone in room you can dial anywhere to the world from, (normally) high boost water pressure showers, coffee maker in room, cieling fan with dimmer light, sealed (single use) shampoo and lotion bottles, free bottled water in the room and a friendly staff that goes out of their way to see to your needs...

Any Baja business that strives to be the best at serving the traveler with honesty and quality such as Baja Cactus (Pemex and motel) deserves all the praise they can get... It should be an example to other tourist businesses that give less.

There are many more such places in Baja that are often mentioned over and over here... such as Jardines in San Quintin, Shari & Juan's Bahia Asuncion services, Bob and Susan's Playa Frambles Concepcion Bay resort, etc.

Let's see---just in this post you called me a liar, you said some else had an attitude problem because they disagreed with your about El Rosario and that is the way it usually goes---you have zero respect for anyone's opinion and trash those who have different experiences than you have.

Someone not long ago sent me links to several threads from a very long time ago---long before I joined this forum, and the same things were being said, over and over. I paraphrase

DK---stick to the things you know about as you are a wealth of information about those things, but not about everything in Baja.

DK --- allow other people to have their own opinions and respect that

DK allow the experiences of others to be valid---how you experience and view things is not the same for everyone.

On and on----same thing---DK can be a positive and major contributor to this board, but keep the politics out and show respect for others.

As the person who sent me those links said, you are your own worst enemy.

Other people are not evil, don't have bad attitudes, are not liars, are not Baja haters, don't understand Baja just because they disagree with you.

AT least try consistency---I repeat, you used the word HATE.

In regards to Baja Cactus, it is one of the better hotels on the way down in some ways----one we will stay at again if we stop in El Rosario.

Diane

What's your favorite brand of shampoo? Let's have a poll...or is it a survey?

maspacifico - 9-15-2009 at 03:53 PM

Flan!

Bajahowodd - 9-15-2009 at 04:05 PM

Unless one is looking for resort amenities, the most important qualities of a hotel/ motel are cleanliness, a good bed, reasonable quietude, security, and friendly staff. I have gone on record as stating that Baja Cactus is well worth the price, despite my own desire to not patronize it. A recent post on another thread noted the Maria Celeste in San Quintin. There are several very fine hotels in San Quintin, which I will not list here. Point is that with San Quintin merely 30-40 minutes from El Rosario, and with ample Pemex available, I fail to understand why a certain poster here continues to act as the chamber of commerce for El Rosario even on threads that really don't apply.

Of course they should. This was the issue that caused all the commotion here a while back. Some here actually thought that shampoo was just poured carelessly into a handy container from a huge bottle and we, you and I, know full well that isn't the case.
All hospitality business in Baja are required to delicately drip the goo from the mother lode to the petit, handy, sample size bottle, eliminating undue agitation of the product and disrupting the molecules, making it a less than effective product.
I mean....who would want that?

By the way...what brand do you use?

I hope we're not disrupting the important bickering that's been consuming this thread for a while. There's room for all of us....right?

OK....Is it Prell? Dippity Doo? Flan? Tell us. It's important.

maspacifico - 9-15-2009 at 04:59 PM

OK. We are on the same page. I'm afraid I don't know what kind of shampoo I'm using....my wife refils the bottles. Hopefully in a tasteful and gentle manner. Hope this doesn't degenerate into conditioner!

Oh please, what started what you call bickering was someone telling another member that they did not like El Rosario because of "thier" attitude, and then the same person calling me a liar---more than once.

I dare say, you might react if someone openly, more than once, called you a liar-----

It is also interesting that you and some others tend to want to focus on that one thing---but as you have often said, no one really reads what others are saying.

If you remember, a while back the same trashing happened when someone reported a break-in in a vehicle in the parking lot at that hotel----they reported it just as a reminder for people to be careful, but they were trashed for daring to say something was not perfect.

I tried to be a blond once many, many years ago, orange, simply orange----now, at last, it is turning a very, very light blonde---almost a white blond.

If I mentioned a conditioner, and it is not the one with the stamp of approval, then I would either be evil and trying to destroy a company, or simply a liar.

Getting ready to travel---have to go and fill my travel shampoo bottles with my shampoo, the only kind I use anyway.

Jeeeeezo...I lie here all the time and it hasen't ruined my life. Nomad is a good place for small, unimportant, nondangerous lies. dk,
now, about those little shampoo bottles. i suspect that when the hotel runs out of fresh small bottles, the staff get creative and refill the old small bottles. management says what they believe to be the practice at the cactus, but do staff always do what the man says? diane says she saw it, so diane likely saw it.

dk, based on your pics, i take it you keep your hair quite short (sort of a conservative look  ). you and your short hair don't look like you need shampoo, so how are you now the shampoo expert??? us leftists know all about shampoo and hair...

She asks me why
I'm just a hairy guy
I'm hairy noon and night
Hair that's a fright
I'm hairy high and low
Don't ask me why
Don't know
It's not for lack of break
Like the Grateful Dead
Darling

Gimme head with hair
Long beautiful hair
Shining, gleaming,
Streaming, flaxen, waxen

Give me down to there hair
Shoulder length or longer
Here baby, there mama
Everywhere daddy daddy

Hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair
Flow it, show it
Long as God can grow it
My hair

Let it fly in the breeze
And get caught in the trees
Give a home to the fleas in my hair
A home for fleas
A hive for bees
A nest for birds
There ain't no words
For the beauty, the splendor, the wonder
Of my...

Hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair
Flow it, show it
Long as God can grow it
My hair

I want it long, straight, curly, fuzzy
Snaggy, shaggy, ratty, matty
Oily, greasy, fleecy
Shining, gleaming, streaming
Flaxen, waxen
Knotted, polka-dotted
Twisted, beaded, braided
Powdered, flowered, and confettied
Bangled, tangled, spangled, and spaghettied!

Oh say can you see
My eyes if you can
Then my hair's too short

Down to here
Down to there
Down to where
It stops by itself

They'll be ga ga at the go go
When they see me in my toga
My toga made of blond
Brilliantined
Biblical hair

My hair like Jesus wore it
Hallelujah I adore it
Hallelujah Mary loved her son
Why don't my mother love me?

Hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair
Flow it, show it
Long as God can grow it
My hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair, hair
Flow it, show it
Long as God can grow it
My hair

Of course they did. They spent a lot of time, and film, on safaris around El Rosario. You could tell by their lusterous hair in the films shot there but, it was presented as deep, dark Africa.
Early day frauds.

I admit....I'm CRAZY.....crazy for looooovin YOUUUUU.

thank you dianne and Antonio for suggesting that people may think it dishonest/disgusting/unsanitary to recycle shampoo bottles....because we cant get those little bottles here, I thought recycling was OK and I wash the bottles with antiseptic soap. If someone could find/bring down a box of new shampoos, or packets are even better...please do so.

Putting the used soap back into the little paper wrappers is more difficult!! (totally kidding folks!!!)
Now there are some really nice hypoallergenic little soaps available at the market in GN...more expensive but our sensitive clients are worth it!;)
Feedback is good and helps us improve our service

NOTE: I have added in red ink to our website that our shampoo bottles ARE refilled so if this upsets you...BYOS..bring your own shampoo.

Of course they were shot on locations. El Rosario and Nairobi. That's where my daddy was kneaded like a ball of sourdough by the mean-spirited elephant then sucked up like a fresh paté.
Anyway, I turned all of the fotos over to The Commision To Investigate Safari Fraud. They want to get to the bottom of this.
Speaking of bottom...it was recently revealed that many of the "wild" lions in most every Johnson documentary were winos recruited from the more poor areas of town and dressed in hollowed-out lions to give the impression of abundant big game. They were directed to walk or wobble across expansive panoramas of grass till they passed out, when the commentator would say, "Oh, isn't that just precious. He's going to take a nap so he can go out hunting and killing tonight."

Yep...It's all under investigation 'cause in both ER and Nairobi, it's against the law for winos to sleep on the grass.

Now, don't make fun of my puréed papá.

The poi I remember was brownish gray and tasted like Bondo. Thicker than ketchup if I recall. What is it you were eating? They may have called it poi but, what do you think it really was?

[Edited on 9-16-2009 by DENNIS]

Bajahowodd - 9-16-2009 at 01:50 PM

It's basically smashed taro root. Taro does have some blue veins, but is generally light beige in color. I absolutely have never seen blue-green poi.

Cypress - 9-16-2009 at 01:53 PM

Ah, lots of projects done with flour paste---simply flour, water, and salt to keep it from molding later just in case you wanted to save your project for years and years.
