duke62 - 10-20-2009 at 01:16 AM

Done. (Why no dog images to post as opposed to laughing/barfing heads?). My Baja rescue dogs say, "Woof!"

1:20 A.M.

Mulegena - 10-20-2009 at 01:28 AM

Wiley...Do they have these contests occasionally? If there's another in the future, we should know about it in advance. Didn't we get a late start?

DENNIS - 10-21-2009 at 12:19 PM

OK Wiley...thanks.
If they have another one, we could turn it over to those ACORN folks and they'll get about ten billion votes. A sure winner.

BajaNuts - 10-21-2009 at 09:08 PM

Here's some text from their webpage. It'll serve as information and also to bump...

"Seventy-three grants will be awarded for a total of $100,000 to eligible Petfinder.com members. Final prizes will go to the eligible Petfinder.com organization with the highest accumulative votes for the duration of the Challenge as specified in the rules.

Voting begins on September 14th, 2009, and ends at midnight (PST) on December 20th, 2009. The more friends you can rally to vote for your favorite rescue organization, the better its chances of winning. Every vote, every day counts - shelters can pull ahead even during the last few days with enough support. Get people involved! Your favorite rescue organization is counting on you!"

BajaNuts - 10-21-2009 at 09:15 PM

from what I can find, Baja Dogs is #3 international and #157 overall.

I've found I can vote only once per 24-hour period, but I can click to award food more than once a day.

When I go to friends' homes I always log on and vote, too.

This is how I do it:

1. Go to http://animalrescuesite.com homepage.

2. The Click to Give Food button is center-top.
Click it and you're sent to a second page which shows the food sponsors and says you've just given .6 bowl of food for animals.

3. Scroll down that second page to the Animal Rescue Center $100,000 Giveaway button.
--Click it and choose BAJA DOGS to cast your vote.
--You're then sent to another page to confirm your vote by id'ing an animal.
--You're then sent to another page where you can check the status of the national and international shelters.

I'm able to click for food numerous times per day, but am restricted to one vote for BAJA DOGS once per day per computer ISP.

[Edited on 10-30-2009 by Mulegena]

BajaNuts - 10-29-2009 at 10:22 PM

thanks, Mulegena,

I had the Vote page bookmarked, so I never saw this other page. I'll bookmark both pages and start adding food.

lizard lips - 10-30-2009 at 07:39 AM

Ok

BajaNuts - 10-30-2009 at 09:20 AM

I finally found the food tab

When on the "vote" page, or after voting, it's the top left tab labeled "HUNGER"-

then "Click To Donate"

Neat! Didn't know there was more than one way to link in.
Now we can all do both services, whichever way we take.

Mulegena - 10-31-2009 at 12:32 AM

BAJA DOGS has advanced to the #2 POSITION!!

Hooray!! Keep on voting everyone, and get your friends and families to do the same, please.

vandenberg - 10-31-2009 at 08:05 AM

Haven't missed yet:P

vandenberg - 10-31-2009 at 11:19 AM

Just a reminder of the wonderful things done by Animalandia here in Loreto:

ANIMALANDIA

There will be a spay/neuter clinic on Nov. 2nd and 3rd. This is the clinic that was to be held on the 9th and 10th; however, it had to be changed to the 2nd and 3rd. Animals can be registered after 7:00 A.M. Two to three volunteers will be needed for the two days to doggie sit post surgeries and we will need someone to help wash instruments and get packs ready for the sterilizer. Volunteers may call the clinic, Misty or Linda (135-1747).

Mulegena - 10-31-2009 at 11:19 AM

Let's get the word out to our friends and family-- its easy, vote BAJA DOGS every day. Tell your kids their votes can be their Christmas present to you this year.

still #2

comitan - 11-1-2009 at 09:05 AM

Ok this is even better.

And you can add Google Chrome, Safari (from Apple), Opera and other browsers to the list.

Perhaps simpler yet is to clear out the cookies associated with that web site or simple clear all of them out if that is your normal routine. In this manner, one can vote as many times as desired on any given day. Vote; clear cookies; repeat...

Viva los perros: I'm up to 27 today

Now can someone be more explicit on how to do this.

NOBODY BEATS THE NOMADS WE ARE GOING TO WIN.

BajaNuts - 11-1-2009 at 11:15 AM

The new title is good, hopefully it will get folks back in for the info.

deleting cookies seems to be working for me. Gives me something to do while the football game is on

Baja Dogs is currently 142 overall
Lighthouse Rescue in Costa Rica is 81 overall,

VOTE!VOTE!VOTE!

I'm looking forward to seeing where it's at tomorrow.
BTW, Lighthouse Animal Rescue used to be in Edgewater, FL so they probably have a pretty big following.

I'm in....... jeeeezo...it showed the picture of an animal to verify and I couldn't tell what it was. Looked kinda like a snake, black and white, so I called it a snake. Wrong. The next picture was a frog. That was easy.

vandenberg - 11-2-2009 at 10:26 AM

Good question.

Clearing cookies on internet options doesn't work.

BajaNuts - 11-2-2009 at 06:58 PM

that black and white weird thing is a CAT! Go Figure! Doesn't look like it in the picture, but that's what I type and it accepts it. And there's a couple mouse pictures. I tried rat on one also and it didn't take it.

As for cookies, I just clear all my cookies. Just a personal preference, but we regularly dump all temp internet files, cookies, downloads, all kinds of stuff. Here's a link to a quick, easy program that will clean everything up in one easy step. ('Nuts2 does a clean up about every day, me...every few days.) This will even take the TRASH out..
http://www.atribune.org/index.php?option=com_content&tas...

As for voting cookies, I clear them like Comitan says-
Tools
Options
Privacy
Show Cookies
"Remove all Cookies" instead of searching through the list for BajaDogs

WOOOHOOO 127th!

edit to add- using Firefox, when I get to the "remove All Cookies" window, it has a "shrink" button, so I clear all cookies, shrink it down onto the toolbar, back the the shelter challenge to vote, then enlarge it, clear cookies, shrink it.... much easier than going through tools/options/privacy/etc.

[Edited on 11-3-2009 by BajaNuts]

BajaNuts - 11-2-2009 at 08:07 PM

Comitan,
I think it's something like that, but we keep our logins and passwords saved by Firefox, so it only takes a second to login.

There gets to be so many cookies, and many of them are tracking cookies, that we just keep everything cleaned out and it seems to help keeping the 'puters running without getting all bogged down.

Hubby just did a little housekeeping on my laptop yesterday and found all these programs running in the background that I didn't even know were on there. He eliminated about 8 programs from the start menu, and totally deleted a few more.

I don't know where they come from but every so often we check all that stuff and find things that don't belong.

I think every site you visit puts a cookie in the cookie jar, even sites that aren't what you want when you're just searching for something.

I'm not a techi-guru, just sharing what we do and it works for us to keep things cleaned out.

That ATF cleaner program is super for getting rid of temp internet files and all that background stuff.

Back to the vote, I don't think I've made it through Noah's Ark of verification pictures yet!

shari - 11-2-2009 at 08:14 PM

man, you'd think they'd come up with some better animal photos in the confirm vote section....have you seen that dead cat one??? weird

BajaNuts - 11-2-2009 at 10:09 PM

yea, that's what some thought was a snake.

I really couldn't tell except it looked fuzzy, domesticated, and laying tummy up (but I couldn't even say that last one for sure!)

I guessed CAT and it took the answer........

Bajagypsy - 11-3-2009 at 11:06 AM

I can't seem to get faster than 3 per minute, but after 15 minutes...

clearing cookies will get you more-

HEY! just thought of something! Clearing cookies is a fast way to vote, But like Comitan pointed out, he doesn't like to clear all cookies, which is the fastest way. SOOOO....

Take one of the browsers listed above that is not your regular browser, designate that as your doggie browser! Use it only for voting. Then the only cookie that will be on it is the voting cookie.

The "clear all cookies" window has a "shrink" button, so if you just keep it open and the voting window open, it's really easy to toggle back and forth to vote, clear, vote, clear, and so on, and so on.....

BajaNuts - 11-7-2009 at 11:59 AM

I just showed BajaNuts 0.5 how to vote, he's been averaging 3 per minute for the past 30 minutes.

fyi- In searching for Baja Dogs' international competitor, I entered Lighthouse (for the Lighthouse Rescue in Costa Rica) and another Lighthouse rescue came up with a rank of 4010. So there are over 4000 charities that have been nominated.

vandenberg - 11-7-2009 at 02:22 PM

I noticed that if you go to Internet Options and delete the cookies, it takes the better part of an hour to be able to vote again. Voted 4 times today, however have my thoughts about it not being very kosher.:saint:

vgabndo - 11-7-2009 at 03:11 PM

"You can cast one vote every day for your favorite rescue organization."

A very generous organization creates a competition, establishes their rules, and offers nice rewards. Is there no one with recent posts that finds anything unsavory about devising a way to CHEAT, actively attempting to teach the means of CHEATING, and proudly reporting the number of times they've cheated? (Ok Vandenberg I acknowledge that you did hedge a tiny bit)

I'd be curious to know what kind of techniques you teach your kids to help them cheat on tests in school.

I'm sure someone will TRY to justify their behavior. Bring it on. In football, the rules say you aren't allowed to gouge-out the eyes of your opponent, in boxing you are prohibited from biting off your opponents ear, in this contest you are prohibited from voting more than once a day.

These generous donors will now have to spend money, they could have spent on protecting pets, to hire IT people to make it impossible for you people to rig the contest. That's part of Baja Nomad that does NOT make me proud.

I accept what Vagabundo says, we are showing no ethics in what we are doing, therefore I'm deleting my original post, and all following posts, and would hope that everyone else does the same thing.

vgabndo - 11-7-2009 at 04:26 PM

"It isn't whether you win or lose, but how you play the game." Is that just a nieve old saw left over from the "Finest Generation" or is there, in fact, some validity to winning honestly or proudly losing while playing fair?

Your Yiddish proverb works here DT. A person who knowingly does not play by the rulers cannot be trusted. If a person can't be trusted, what do they have left?

Situational ethics??? It seems to this old college drop-out that most of the philosophical mental masturbation around Situational Ethics turns out to be fairly narrow in scope.

That said, I live in a country where the national religion is structured to allow a miscreant to self-forgive and continue down the same crooked path. I think that the IT folks previously mentioned should just fix is so anyone who cheats loses their privilege to vote even ONCE a day. Then it will be a contest for honest folks.

It won't likely make any difference, but my one daily vote is likely lost because I don't participate in rigged contests.

vandenberg - 11-7-2009 at 04:31 PM

Okay, Vagabundos,
You made your point and a very valid one.
But, this doesn't have to mean we shouldn't vote any more. Let's keep it honest and obey the rules.
Please Wiley, repost the site.

[Edited on 11-7-2009 by vandenberg]

Vagabundo

Do you think for one instant that any one of us didn't know what we were doing, we just didn't need it brought to our attention. we felt that we were doing something good.

vgabndo - 11-7-2009 at 04:35 PM

Vandy...I'm with you all the way. Taking down the link, I judge, is too extreme. Let's just play fair.

Seemingly, I do. I vote once a day and won't take responsibility for the actions of others. I won't comment on the morality of their methods either. My efforts are mine alone.

Bless you all. I am operating here from the point of view that elders in our society have an obligation to point out to their friends and neighbors (cyber or otherwise) when they slip out of integrity. I just happen to have a couple of years of training, now, that has put me in a position to be very grateful to anyone who knows me who will call me if I am screwing-up. What a gift to have people around me to help be hold the line against that part of myself that I might wish to hide, repress, or deny. I could NEVER expect another to read my comments if I was not openly inviting others to hold me accountable for my own actions.

You WERE trying to do something good. We all were. I just think we can do that without having a mouth full of ear. (reference to previous post:lol:)

Let's hear some suggestions for how we can get many more people than now to vote just once a day. I sent the link to both the big address lists I have, and one of these non-Baja people, at least, has reported that they are voting for La Paz every day. I trust there are more.

Absolutly. Perhaps the method was a bit over-zealous but, the intent was pure.
It serves no purpose to dive into the philosophical goo of ends justifying means so, I hope everybody involved with this effort will continue to get out the vote and we all can give it our best. A noble effort is a win in itself.

BajaNuts - 11-7-2009 at 06:39 PM

Did a little searching and found the following quotes relating to other organizations in the contest.

"And all the follow-on days, you won't have to type in XXXXXXX or anything because it will remember your vote on that computer and you can skip steps 4 and 5. I run around my house every day and vote on each computer I have (you can only vote once per computer)."

"You can vote every day from all computers you have, but only once a day, until December 20th. "

"On the days I'm working, I get 9 votes in.
It lets me vote on every computer.
Plus I get my vote in on my home computer.
So most days I'm getting 10 votes in daily."

We are not the only ones to vote multiple times, just happen to be a little smarter to figure out the cookie trick.

(May have to edit this post as I've been searching and copying for a while......)

As in every situation involving personal ethics....be it harvesting seafood out of season, speeding, mordida, voting more than once, or any other situation, follow your heart and you'll sleep at night.

Maybe the ends do not justify the means----I seldom believe they do. But maybe it is not just a black and white world, and maybe situational ethics are far more than mental masturbation---it all depends on many points of view, and maybe it is more that philosophical goo----but then again, most of us will continue to see the world from our own perspectives---and that is always situational.

So, yes, cast the first stone.
