Surely, you jest.
Whatever has happened in South L.A., a Renaissance wouldn't be the descriptive word.
Actually, thanks to Google, I have taken a "Virtual" Pilgrimage. I was surprised to see that the house my Great-Grandparents bought in 1927 where I
was born and later lived through High School and after, looks much the same as when I left there in the 60s. Some changes in the neighborhood are
noticeable, though. Notably, the alleys that were common throughout that area. From the satellite views, it is obvious they're impassible from the
accumulated debris. No surprise. Who, in their right mind, would go down one of those alleys, anyway ?
It would be interesting, I suppose, if I survived. Is that the reason for the suggestion ?
I note that the High School to the West that I graduated from (Washington [now Preparatory] High School) had a minority student population of approx.
47 percent in '62. Roughly evenly divided between Black and Hispanic. For 08-09 (2440 students), it was still roughly even, BUT it was 46.7 percent
Hispanic and 52.4 percent Black. 0.2 White (5 total).
A Pilgrimage Home would likely be a bad idea in this case. I'll Pass.
