Bump.

This deserves to stay up top.

Hope is found safe and happy

SiReNiTa - 9-2-2010 at 12:10 PM

Does anyone know if he has moved on from Rosarito???

If it looks like he is headed south I can send in the picture to a few places in Guerrero Negro...

Also...any info about what kind of stuff he likes to do? That could give some ideas as to what places he might stop?

His money supply has been cut off so He's probably not going far.

He loves to fish. That won't help much.

Send the fotos anyway, Sirenita. You never know.

I looked over your post and am praying for you as well. The Nomads are very diligent :)

Just wanted to let you know that the Detective is closing the case as she says it appears he is "voluntarily missing."

Well...I'm not too surprised since they have less than zero jurisdiction below the border and who knows about the cooperation level.

"Voluntarily missing." What a pee-poor interpretation of events.

Got flyers made today. Too bad we have this messy holiday weekend in front of us. That will cause a mess up there.

cynthiajeffries - 9-2-2010 at 03:02 PM

Thank you Dennis.

I heard things get really...crowded...over the weekends.

Also, I have his passport photo, it shows him with short hair. Is that something I should send to you? Let me know.

No. We're all set. I used my phone number and your email. If you have second thoughts about your email, let me know. It's at the bottom of the sheet and I can just trim it off.

shari - 9-2-2010 at 03:27 PM

thank you Dennis for taking the reins on this...we are all standing by and keeping an eye out...hopefully the bank trick will work.

No second thoughts, it's a new email address so those are the only messages I'll receive.

BajaBlanca - 9-3-2010 at 08:48 AM

Dennis or Cynthia - send us a copy of the flyer so we can print up and post around BCS too - lots of people going to vizcaino and G Negro and s ignacio and mulege every day !!

DENNIS - 9-3-2010 at 09:14 AM

This is the copy, Blanca. I used the photo of Peter holding his dog in the space, to the left of his statistics.
Sorry....this is the best I can send you right now. It looks fine and well spaced on a flyer....don't know how it will look when it sends here.

yes I still would considered him missing or in trouble if he does not contact in person his daughter and also her uncle,, more than just an email asking for more money

DENNIS - 9-4-2010 at 06:20 PM

He just doesn't seem like the type who stays in touch. If he wasn't acting "normal", I think Cynthia would be less than jubilant.
I hope that's what I see anyway.

Well I think he is ok. But I wont know for sure until he contacts me. Regardless, he's not getting his card until and unless he comes back to America and gets that scolding I was talking about.

The email he sent was very...usual. Just the way he always sends 'em. but he's not off the hook!

Cynthia As a mother who had to forgive a young lady May I suggest you remember some of your transgretions, real or in thought, and forgive quickly. A hug speaks louder than words.

wilderone - 9-5-2010 at 07:37 AM

"A hug speaks louder than words"

A reminder of common sense, consideration of others, discussion of boundaries, and the fact that everything anyone does has a ripple effect will hopefully diminish anxiety and reinforce safey for all.

I did get a frustrating phone call from a SD Investigator...essentially she said that because he is in Mexico, they can't help me. "We're not going to go down there to look for him"

Ok, Ms. Detective, so you called me why???

Cynthia....Did he mention to your uncle his whereabouts or contact information? Probably not, but I'm just asking.
Did you post your phone number here or on CL? Was the investigator with the police, or private?

Just hang in there. Something will come forward.

cynthiajeffries - 9-7-2010 at 01:07 PM

My dad's email to my uncle:

Date: Sat, 4 Sep 2010 11:14:00 -0700

Subject: Re: ALEX
From: mr.peter.

thank you!

gnukid - 9-7-2010 at 02:05 PM

Good news all around it seems for folks trying to meet up with family down in Mexico. In hopes of helping out, I might add that it seems that the separate mindsets of North of the Border families versus South of the Border families often leads to poor communication when time and resources are short. I have a theory about this and a solution, it seems that NOB people are used to having long casual conversations via email and phone while those traveling down south don't often have cell signal, credit, internet access etc... furthermore, those who are out of their element down south can not not answer clearly such as where are you, is there a western union and what do you need to receive money, where are you going etc... so when the connection is finally made, two separate mindsets and modes offer little clear communication, consensus or resolution.

I have learned to think about this in advance and write down very specific questions that I will ask/answer when we connect. This helps to get to the point in a few seconds and get an answer.

Over the years I have spent way too much time, trying to connect with a family member or friend, who is likely standing behind a palm tree a few feet away or perhaps a thousand miles away, but due to regional whimsical differences and unclear communications there is often a disconnect.

Ask simple direct questions with one word answers. Do you need help? Where are you? Are you eating ok? Would you like to come home? Are you going north or south? Where will be on x date? Can we send money to the western union there for you? Where will you be staying exactly and for how long?

Will you promise to call again on x date and time.

Solutions to lost banking cards are:

Send a replacement with a new arrival, DHL etc... Marinas are often good places to send packages for travelers. Send money electronically to a mutual trusted friend with a functioning banking card to meet up with.

Send money to Western Union, or in some cases American Express.

Buy a (RT?) ticket for the person to fly home if they can get themselves to the airport. At home they can regroup and head back south with a better plan and bank card(s).

I live in Las Vegas. I don't think my two babies would appreciate the long trip to Mexico : (

knuckles - 9-7-2010 at 03:11 PM

Why is it that the women have to take care of the babies and the men?

It seems to be that way everywhere!

There is probably some senorita that is taking care of him now, and will kick him to the curb when the funds don't roll in when they should.

Hang in there Cindy!

cynthiajeffries - 9-7-2010 at 03:24 PM

Thanks Knucks. Its just my girls and I and not-enough-funds to do anything these days. I'm worried about my dad, but I've got to take care of mine...

vgabndo - 9-7-2010 at 04:00 PM

Hang in there Cynthia. It isn't easy loving someone who lets alcohol do their decision making. Take care of you and your babies. In the end, if you can't help him; and that might be the case, you just have to know that you did your best within the limits of your resources. The affect of my drunken father shooting himself has taken 20 years for me to resolve. TAKE CARE OF YOU. Please.

Good hunting to you and bless you for trying.

Except, I think he would be a bit more vocal and explanatory if he was deprived of his own money.

If a relative deprived me of my money I sure would be vocal. I'd tell them to eff off and those would be the last words they ever heard from me.

This all is amazing. The guy is a mature adult, possibly an alcoholic, but together enough to travel around. He's not some lost kid.

We don't even know if it is him using his ATM card. Sometimes crooks will hold you captive and have you withdraw money until you are taped-out. Tijuana cop did that to me but for only one withdraw then he let me go on my merry way.

Did your mama really say that?

gnukid - 9-7-2010 at 06:12 PM

Yes she did, at times I would remark about someone that left their family, husband or wife and how shocked everyone was, she reminded me, its legal, appropriate and not against the law and probably better than staying around if their relationships aren't working or are unhealthy. Shocking but true. When I first went to Mexico I met all kinds of old neighbors I hadn't seen in years, there they were happily living a new life in Mexico, playing tennis, singing karoke, dancing! Shocker!

I appreciate all the honesty. However, the ATM ate my dad's card, and we don't yet have an address to mail a new one to.

Paul....tell me....did you really come upon a bunch of old neighbors who ran off on their families, dancing, singing like Jagger and cavorting all over the place when you got down here?
Sounds as though all of you were drawn by some sort of spiritual magnet.
And, you all went right by my house without saying hello.
Ohhhh my.

It's true, I could probably mention names and karoake titles but that might not be appropriate as everyone seems to know everyone and the songs they sing around here. Actually when I arrived in my first village, the street names were written on wood signs, all the same names as my home town and there they were, running sport suits and tennis shoes all healthy looking and happy.

Now mind you, I used to have all sorts of silly ideas about how people should never leave their family, no matter what. I have 40 plus immediate family members, mostly women, somehow for as long as I remember I have had to take out all the garbage, clean the kitchen, mow the lawns, fix the bikes and cars and a long list of chores decided without me, then once I went to Mexico for Thanksgiving...

But seriously my family members are always there for me when I am in Mexico or here and vice versa, I return home often to catch up on repairs, stuff happens, and its nice to have family that make things happen, like Cynthia! And I am still friends with all my old neighbors too.

In this case if you decide to send a replacement card remember they often require validation with pin code in a US ATM prior to being sent to Mexico though I could be wrong about that. Ask if the card can be validated in a foreign ATM or not.

I would validate the atm card here and send it with a care package via a US Person heading to a face to face predetermined meet-up point and time in Baja.

Don't forget that this guy is on SSDI and has a conservator of the funds for a reason. and secondly, I had my ATM card stolen at an ATM machine in TJ once. I was using my card, punched in the amount I wanted, forgetting I'd be getting pesos. Had to make another transaction. Someone came over to "help" me - he distracted me and switched cards, put a different card in, watched me punch in my code, and was out of there before I knew what happened.
