On my last trip to the Den in Sweetwater I was tempted to use our old time way of removing Snakes from their Den.

My Dad and two or three others would take a long stick with some old rags wired on the end. Set it afire and push it into the Den Hole. This would cause the Snakes to start "Warming up' and moving around and seperating.
Then the men would take a larger cane pole with a Hook on the end. They would put it in the Den and drag the snakes out, cut their Buttons off and releae them to another Den nearby.

We would take the Buttons to the Nolan County Farm office and receive 50 Cents each, no mater what size.

I never did find a DEn of any kind on the Island, Just Nests somewhat like a Rabbit. Nest.

Oh ! Matic I owned an operated a Panga out of Loreto for 27 years so I have some experience.
How about you? Have you ever been to Baja?Baja Sur I mean.

In the late 70’s I worked on a yacht, traveling Baja and the Sea of Cortez, I fell in love with the place , people , culture , Isla Santa Catalana rattles less snakes...... my story…
I was able to meet amazing folks from all walks of life and see and experience things that today are some of my most cherished memories,
Here are a few,
While in Cabo the owner of the yacht I was Capatain on , offered my services with our dingy to ferry some national graphic diver/ photographers around, they asked me if I had ever dove the sand falls off the inter point , and I had, they asked me if I would take them there , and I did, we had a blast diving them, I would disrupt the sand and while caught up in the fall they filmed me both still and video, we had a amazing few days together I will never forget it ever…, after our bonding experience they shared with me there trip agenda as well as some of the neat stuff they had done and seen on there trip down the Pacific side from San Diego…. The interesting thing on there list were these snakes on a small Island off Loreto…. I never forgot wandering about those snakes…..

Fast forward twenty years…. In the early 1990’s I had a place in Tripue most of you know the place , I kept a twin diesel boat there on a trailer for a couple years, got to dive and fish and enjoy some wonderful times there , A fellow name Jose Torres from time to time worked for me as a hand , we would talk for hours about all kinds of stuff , and these snakes were a frequent topic…. He told me that many Gringos’ have come to study them and I think but don’t recall they were discouraging any active engagement on the Island even back then….
Jose is a great Guide, Fisherman and Father….

I got a million stories from my various trips over the years , this is the first time I have ever committed one to writing , I thought Skeet would enjoy it…

Yes, I've been to Baja Sur. I owned a boat in Los Barriles. Does that qualify? Owned a condo in Cabo in 85. I'm not entirely sure why this is relevant.

That's an interesting technique for getting snakes out. Nothing new though. Chances are you read about that online and posted it to get a reaction.

Scouter: Appears that you and I share some very unique and wonderful experiences around Loreto. Jose was like Alvaro Murrillo , Both good men. and knew the Sea like no one else.

My first trip to the Island was in the company of Tio Don O'Niel and Fred Shields. Last time I heard Fred still lived in his Home just up from the Hotel Oasis.

We went in three boats of Manuel Ferenadaz and his son with two live Goats and our camping Gear, Camped a week on the island fishing, eating Lobster, watching Rattless Snakes, then as we needed food we Ate the Goats.

A snake without a rattle is not a rattlesnake. Only rattlesnakes have rattles, doesn't take a genus to figure that out. It could have been a pit viper brought over from Egypt by Skeet when he was in the French foreign legion with me, or planted by Obama Osama to destroy the ecology of Baja and Te-has. There are some, who have held multiple jobs... many, many... and have traveled, and visited many lands....

I have always found it strange when i have found someone who has never left the State of California, and is some cases Los Angeles Country...

I had someone working for me who had never left Los Angeles County in their entire life, and this individuals age was 33...

I was cross training the individual ... their current position was a secretary and I felt the person was up doing to the job... which was proven true upon their return from Venture Country ... where the collected "evidence" on an investigation was needed ..

The real point was that she called me late in the evening at my home and asked if she should "take water" as she was going so far away.. and was concerned that they might not have the normal things way up there in Ventura...

It really made me laugh... but, it wasn't something I joked about until return... asked if there were any arrows in the car... we both had a good laugh...

Everyones life experiences are very, very different... and when ya start talking to someone in their 80's.... ya going to have a large slice of life to "talk" about... IMHO

Like what Skeet/Loreto brings to the table.. he speaks his mind !! in unfarnished terms.. these terms have been in existences for a long time.. just that PC has changed the landscape.. but, Skeet does not go with that picture...

And good for him... we need more folks speaking THEIR MINDS... not just a bunch that mime what is put out on the media... on how we should live our lives...

Don't agree with Skeets on the environmental issue ... we have been over it... but, I have know and worked with individuals like Skeet... and all ya got to do is keep talking... there eventually develops a means of communication, and change however little is accomplished for both... an appreciation for the other side... rather than a keen jerk reaction ... which puts very high walls of division .. which helps no one...

And I've found in my life.... listen to the old ones... they have a very lot to share as they have been through the drill a few times... not saying they are always right... but, they do have thoughts.. which are valid .. as others hold the same view..

And I do agree with the troll comment of David el investigador, Skeet's the master. A knowledge of basic biology should have been enough to put his "experiment" in the light that it was given. Although they may both be snakes, if the rattleless rattlesnakes had mated with the natives in that farflung corner of Texas and produced offspring, these would likely have been born sterile--like horses and donkeys producing mules. So, after the original undocumented immigrants had died off, there wouldn't have been any for Skeet and his grandkid to "study." Perhaps that is why he needs a new batch of them?

Two-three months ago, I'd have agreed. But something's differenct about DENNIS as of late. Perhaps he had a life-changing experience he's reluctant to talk about?

The fact that he has yet to respond to the bait (or is he busy writing a book as a response?) proves my point. I think the android is busy contacting the mother ship for further programming in how the original would have responded.

Good news:{For Some} Bad for others!

Have had some good discussions with my friends in and arouind Sweetwater.
They report no Rattleless Snakes anywhere within 500 feet of the Selected Den.
In addition they have stated that they are willing to take the chance so are going to try to get at least 100 good size snakes an transplant them on Catalana, WOW! That should real prove if the Rattleless Snakes Genes are domnant!!

I will keep accurate records and Photos.[
