My dos centavos, not worth much: Realistically you can expect to make 10 to 15 miles per day on the trek from Santa Ines/Cataviņa to the Pacific
coast. That is traveling cross country if you are fit. Water, where you will you get the water? Water? The sooner you go the better. Cold is good,
and it is too late already to get too cold, and hot is bad, very hot is very bad.
Appoint a leader, plan well, follow the plan, follow the leader. Sat radio, Spot, a few hand held radios, preferably VHF 5 watt handheld. You all
should folllow a road, IFR travel. Preestablish meeting places with support, communicate with support. Talk about the what ifs? Make what if plans.
Follow your plans. It will take longer than 3 days to make the coast.
Always wanted to do the coast to coast hike and was always planning to use el Arroya de la Bocana as the route west from Sant Ines. But that requires
prerunning, stashing water, etc. Life gets in the way and the ocean and surf always beckon. I'm getting fat and lazy.
Good luck if you try it! |
