so, let me re-post

and it was directed to you, Karl

so, to save a waypoint, waypoints or a track, you have to make sure, you high light it on the left in GE. If it shows on your screen, but no high lighted, whatever is highlighted will be saved (in your case the bottom of the "back door road")

by the way, your Playa Bonita is called Playa Punta Aguja

here are the palapa and beach access waypoints:

Are we at the end of the internet?

Just got this message when trying your kmz link:

Found a video on youtube

it's the road into Aqua Verde, but not the one we will climb out!

Agua Verde Fish Camp Road - Baja California Sur, Mexico
Tim and Adrian ride to Argentina

Photos/Film on 2 x GoPro Hero's

And here is the one out of AV to Constitution:

Uploaded by pdailey75 on Oct 5, 2011

In early 2011, I rode the 1500-mile Rip to the Tip ride and had the chance to visit the Agua Verde on the Sea of Cortez. After a swim in the beautiful bay we rode our motos out of the Bay to the Baja highlands on this remote rough dirt road. Epic to say the least.

Well get your gear ready it's not far away. I should have my new winch wired and ready soon. Maybe XR Phil will bring some really good dinner down for us.

shari - 4-11-2012 at 10:30 PM

that was a cool way to see the Agua Verde road...through that go camera...cool...here we are at one of those scary turns

well, we're back from agua verde and didnt see anybody we knew from "the outside". Sure had a great vacation though...nice and quiet on the other side of Aguja...which had about 50 camps on it and is THE santispac of agua verde at easter....here is that beach from the sea...

and our camp on the other side

the village was much better stocked this year...2 beer tents for both tecate and corona fans...lots of stuff in the new little store too...fresh meat, fruits, veggies, lots of cookies and ice even....but we mainly gorged on fruits of the sea like urchins, oysters and these puppies...

the weather was a dream...gotta love that glassy calm sea

look forward to hearing about your trip guys

TMW - 4-12-2012 at 04:26 PM

The water looks so calm and inviting.

David K - 4-12-2012 at 04:49 PM

Cerveza Survey, Agua Verde...

Am curious... at the Corona tent, do they sell Pacifico... and does Pacifico outsell Corona (I should think) with locals?

At the Tecate tent, do they also sell Dos Equis? How about Tecate Lite?

Hope you vacation was grand! How does Juan prep and eat the Hacha Clam?

Hook - 4-12-2012 at 04:51 PM

How was the fishing, Shari?

I want to know how to cook those giant clam/mussels! Maybe I'll just bring some fresh garlic and white wine.... A lot of it.

shari - 4-13-2012 at 12:37 PM

the water was very inviting all right...but I did suffer some nasty agua mala stings...tiny mucous like jelleyfish...and last night they all got inflamed (after Laurieboats tequila thursday???)

David, Corona is the brewery so the tents have that on them...pacifico and pacifico light is what mexicanos drink...they didnt have the gringo favorite Corona and only sold cans. The Tecate tent had rojos of course and the ever popular tecate light.

the callo de hacha is wonderful just raw with lime or in a c-cktail type thingy....ya just smash the shell and cut out the big scallop...or sauted in garlic butter is pretty darn yummy too.

woody with a view - 4-13-2012 at 12:44 PM

how big around was the scallop that came out of that shell?

David K - 4-13-2012 at 12:51 PM

That was my question...

"at the Corona tent, do they sell Pacifico... and does Pacifico outsell Corona (I should think) with locals?"

Your answer is what I expected: "David, Corona is the brewery so the tents have that on them...pacifico and pacifico light is what mexicanos drink...they didnt have the gringo favorite Corona and only sold cans."

FYI: I don't drink Corona... and I don't know a lot of gringos that do... Maybe tourists in Cabo do? Only if one is handed to me, will I swallow that stuff, to not be rude... Pacifico and Dos Equis are my favorite beers, and I do like Tecate Light, too.

I've never been to Agua Verde by road, only by boat.

How would an F350 4x4 with a cabover camper (with about 15 inches of overhang) fare on the road IN to Agua Verde from the north?

I've never been on the road, but I wouldn't worry. There will be at least two Toyotas there to help you out.

Sorry, I couldn't resist.

Maybe it's time for an all-in count on this noble adventure. Please confirm, or deny as hearesay.

What is the proposed adgenda? I know its in here somewhere but to save time looking for the latest info:

How many nights camping?
Going home after we get to Constitution or camping somewhere else?

Fernweh - 4-23-2012 at 08:43 PM

I like to join the Pinto Party at Anna's on 4/29 and probably stay there overnight.
Next morning (4/30), I will leisurely drive to Loreto to take on fuel and stock up a bit, then continue to the Palapa at Aqua Verde.
Let's play it by ear from there....

XRPhlang - 4-23-2012 at 08:46 PM

Those from the North are meeting at Coco's Corners on Sat. the 28th in the afternoon. I think Agua Verde the next night. Of course this up for edit.

willyAirstream - 4-24-2012 at 07:04 AM

I`m installing the brake booster that Karl is bringing on Sunday, then installing on Monday, then heading to AV and should arrive Monday mid afternoon. I'll be at the Pinto Derby on Sunday.

on edit - looking at the correct month calender now

Will somebody leave a trail of bread crumbs or tie some ribbon on a bush to guide us to the palapa meeting place? I see it on the google map but not sure how to get there......dt

Are you not going to the Pinto Party at Anna's?

I shall carve a sign which reads: < TW

and place it on the AV road, to show the turnoff to the palapa

But I might be not the first one to arrive there......

TMW - 4-24-2012 at 08:14 AM

Great. I talked to Phil Sunday and he is ready. My brother Bill and I plan to leave Sat. morning from Hemit and stop in Mexicali at NORRA then head down to Gonzaga Bay and maybe Cocos. I'll talk to John and try and get a fix on which location to meet. Regardless it is Agua Verde Monday the 30th afternoon or evening. Roy I'll give you a call today or tomorow. I just got back from Colorado so I'm unpacking. I'll be in the white Tacoma with shell shown above. Fernweh we'll be looking for your signs.

dtbushpilot - 4-24-2012 at 09:10 AM

I plan to leave Buena Vista Monday morning and be in AV mid afternoon. Are we camping 1 night only? Need to know if I need to bring 1 package of hot dogs or 2...

TMW - 4-24-2012 at 05:29 PM

Depends DT are you going north with us on the run from La Purisima to Mulege?. We may be camping at Timbabichi the second night. Once we get together we can decide on what we are doing. I'll bring plenty of grits for all.

Fernweh - 4-24-2012 at 07:18 PM

Do you guys have FRS radios on board?

Which channel to use? I might need a frequency for that channel.

I shall place the sign here....see below

dtbushpilot - 4-24-2012 at 08:54 PM

All I have is a VHF marine radio. I'll keep an eye out for the sign, some ribbon would be helpfull for us moto heads. Looks like I'll be going solo, jtcopilot said it sounds like a guy thing so she is going to pass......dt

I think we're all going down the gulf side, but if anyone is planning to pass through Ensenada could you please U2U me.

John's wife Barbara will come if there are other women along. I emailed him that Blanche was going. DT tell her that, she may change her mind.

I mentioned that there would be other women on the trip and a guarantee of big adventure, she's thinking about it. Maybe if I tell her that Tecate is sending a van full of beer and Tecate girls to camp with us.......that ought to do it.:lol:......dt

David K - 4-25-2012 at 11:11 AM

Sounds great... you guys have fun... !

Bajatripper - 4-25-2012 at 04:40 PM

If we can make it, my wife will be attending, too, and perhaps a couple of teenagers that nobody will even notice. But that's a big "if" at the moment.

Trip

John M - 4-25-2012 at 04:43 PM

TW and others. That seems like way too much driving for us, especially BOLA to Loreto in one day. We aren't much for that sort of event though the trip sounds like an adventure we'd sure like to do.

John M

David K - 4-25-2012 at 05:30 PM

Bahia de los Angeles to Loreto is what the NORRA Race is doing in one day, no need for anyone else to rush through Baja crazy-like!

TMW - 4-26-2012 at 07:16 AM

All are welcome to go. I have GMRS with FRS channels as well as VHF race radios. I think Phil has the GMRS/FRS radios also.

Fernweh - 4-26-2012 at 03:56 PM

TW,

Please give me a channel or frequency for my radio set up.

I'm already down south in the Baja.

I'll see you all at the Pinto Party (5/29) or at the AV beach (5/30)

Greetings from San Ignacio

Phil and I will be at Alfonsinas in Gonzaga Bay the late afternoon/evening of Saturday the 28th. For a freq. I usually monitor 151.625 weatherman during races. I can bring my CB radio and monitor ch 19 or any other on the CB band. Frenweh you make a decision on a radio freq. and I'll setup mine to monitor it. I have CB, VHF, GMRS and FRS radios. Otherwise I'll look for you at the Palapas at Agua Verde.

TMW - 4-27-2012 at 05:32 PM

Leaving in the AM will see XRPhil, JohnM and Squarecircle in Gonzaga Sat. evening and the rest in Agua Verde Monday evening. David K wish you were coming who knows what mission we might happen upon. The gods be with us.

David K - 4-27-2012 at 05:37 PM

Steve, I should restate . . . Capacity of my rig and mine as a 4x4 driver. You're too humble about the capability of your 4Runner - after all it's a Toyota and according to DK Toyotas are the best  I've seen you drive out of deep sand without any traction aids / lockers, I was impressed with your accelerator pedal control!!!

Also, last I checked there's no viable device to shrink a 26-ft monster into a Jeep-sized trail rig. Steep climbs/drops are no problem, it's the sharp switchbacks and narrow passes that worry me most.

Steve, after this trip please let me know if my rig could negotiate the Timbabichi. It could be worse than the Mision Sta Maria Widowmaker.

Have fun all - Zully, Alberto and Jorge. I forget those boys are already teenagers.

Nothing is worse than the Widowmaker and the Bog, just beyond!

Your former motorhome would be fine Art, this full size 'house on wheels' you now have is , well, not real trail worthy I am affraid. I do hope you get some real big tires on it so you can drive on Shell Island with IT!

I'm with you on this one, Art. Not because I've seen your current rig in action but rather, because I've seen you in action on your current rig. If you have faith that you can get through something, no matter what you're driving, my money's on you, Baby!

Anxiously waiting for trip reports. Road logs (in DK's style) and lots of pictures and videos of the difficult maneuvers on the trail to the palapa would be great. Thanks.

I'm still stuffed from the fish fry at the Pinto Derby.
I'm in Loreto right now and will leave soon for AV.

See you there at the palapa

Hear, hear, I second that! Great trip, lots of good memories and new friends.

TMW - 5-6-2012 at 07:23 AM

I third it. Great trip. For me it was 4 days of camping and 3 nights in a motel. I put 2200 miles on my Tacoma. Lots and lots of dirt roads and steep hills. Worth every minute of it. I'll do my trip report in next few days after I unpack and unwind.

Great trip for me as well. Sill unwinding and dealing with the work that piles up after 11 days of vaca. (not to mention a good case of the revenge).

Got some good pics., met some new friends and saw some parts of Baja that few will ever see, unless they're as crazy as our bunch.

Trip report to follow.

Great!!

KurtG - 5-7-2012 at 02:33 PM

Did anyone do a road log for this trip like the one I posted for the San Isidro/Mulege mountain route. If so I would really like to see it. If not I'll have to catch Phil at his restaurant and force myself to put away some of that Cajun grub while pouring over maps. I was in Mulege and Loreto/San Javier while you guys were doing this trip but was on my 31 year old Honda 750 which isn't much of a trail bike.

Put some knobbies on it and it would have made it, no sweat. No road log in our vehicle, sorry, next time.

TMW - 5-8-2012 at 08:49 AM

I didn't keep a road log but I did go to Google Earth and plotted the course I think we took from San Antonio to the graded road near the cattle ranch. From there we joined the road to Timbabichi.

My first ride down Baja was 38 years ago on a 1973 CB750 so somehow it just made sense to do it again on a vintage 750. This time my 1981 model. The old bike performed perfectly. I rode from Arroyo Grande to Mulege, Loreto, and up to San Javier and put a total of 2500 miles on the odometer. Great ride!

TMW - 5-8-2012 at 09:20 AM

I would not recommend the route we took shown above with the ? because there are a few places where the trail was a little hard to see and find without getting out and looking around. Karl's persistances kept us on track. I suggest taking the route marked Rd to AV. From the top of the mtn out of AV to where we joined the road to Timbabichi I showed 60 miles. Some was from backtracking. It was another 35 miles from there to Timbabichi. Then again if getting a little lost is OK go for it.

I've ridden the peninsula on a Honda CB750 (as well as a CB450, boy, talk about tingly hands from the vibrations!), too, but didn't do much trail riding. I do remember how much it liked to lay down of the slippery tideflats at Conchalito, though.
