Here in Pescadero it's 85º and we are experiencing 25-30mph gusts from the NE with lots of blowing dust. Fairly miserable and very un-March like conditions.

I remember when the air in and around Los Angeles looked just like that from smog.

If this speed and direction holds-up, it should be the first good day to go land sailing. When the tide gives me another 25-35 feet of hard sand! Woo Hoo! Gonna hook up with BajaRat and see if we can scare ourselves! :lol:

last night was a huge blow...lotsa damage locally...still hooting out there around 35mph...a neighbor lost his roof...not a good day to go outside....still, it's around 80 degrees.

I'm not sure I'm going back out there. A little too much and it is hauling around to straight down the beach again. It think it would, at best, be moments of glee punctuated by violent capsizes!

Interesting that in far northern California in the 1870's the air quality was much worse than in southern California. The majority of people signing the summit register on Mt. Shasta in the 1800's complained that there was nothing to see for all their effort. It wasn't until the genocide of the Native Americans, lumber industry regulations, and forest fire suppression that things began to change in the north.

It's also interesting to note that in the LA basin area, the air-quality was reported bad back in the early 1800's, mostly because of the fact that the LA basin is an "air trap". Of course, back then it was dust and wood-smoke, not the nasty stuff that is there now. The Santa Ana's help push the LA air down to San Diego occasionally, and beyond to the south and west, which helps LA temporarily.

Got to La Jolla at 8am and watched the overhead waves, drank some coffee and read the paper. Dead calm. It warmed to 70 f when we were ready to head for home.

We had a little rain with flashes of lightning & thunder this morning! As the cells rolled over us s/w to n/e the wind blew hard tailing the front. Now in early pm it's beautiful with light winds. Tropical feed from down south, I believe. Took the dust off the roads for a while. I hope this thread lives on, Dennis. I'm a believer. :bounce:
