It's just the desert

i'm not sure what this is. It's the yucca with the thinner leaves.

StuckSucks - 5-1-2015 at 05:03 PM

At very least, scenery requires snow or lots of flowers.

probably Yucca Whipplei, if the pic is in N Baja ( new name is Hesperoyucca whipplei...). Yucca vallida mid-peninsula coastal would work too.

I was thinking more along the line with the species 'colada'. Pina colada.

Thanks. I'm having difficulty finding more pure desert landscapes. There will be more after I make the move.

When you're driving any distance in Baja Sur...

You'll notice the scenery changes...

IT'S NOT ALL DESERT.

StuckSucks - 5-6-2015 at 10:21 AM

These were taken in 2010 - today the pools are covered with 10 feet of rocks and gravel.

güéribo - 5-6-2015 at 01:15 PM

Stuck...can you tell us where the pools are? What happened to them?

durrelllrobert - 5-6-2015 at 02:52 PM

All of Southern California is a desert even though man has transformed it to not look that way in certain areas. With the current drought and water use restrictions that will begin to change and eventually revert back to way it looked originally.

They're on the Loreto --> San Javier Road, right about here:

Last season's hurricanes trashed the canyon along with some petroglyphs.

Stuck,

That was a shame the damage the storms caused. These photos were taken at the site in 2010.

Very nice Stucksucks. I like it when the Cortez looks flat like that with a faint breeze roughing its surface here and there.

David K - 5-8-2015 at 06:48 PM

Redhilltown, isn't amazing to know that Graham walked that coast, at water's edge? Seeing your photo would justify the advice he got that it couldn't be done!

redhilltown - 5-8-2015 at 11:48 PM

Yes! When we rounded the point and looked south it was an amazing view... how he did it I have no idea. My guess is that he moved with the tides!

Further south of there when I was paddling I saw that at low tide there is "beach". The cliffs generally seem to end at the water.

We've spectated the 1000 several times at the top of that cliff. I get it - with a few beers that camp spot could be dangerous.

A long fast straight, shutting down to a hard left, then around the punta.
