I think I'll take a walk...

Genius!

fishbuck - 5-5-2019 at 05:17 PM

There once was a man from Nantucket
Who carried his fish in a fishbucket
The fish all got loose
So he hunted a goose
And finally he said "I will duck" it:coolup:

AKgringo - 5-5-2019 at 05:31 PM

A Nomad in search of a new scene
Chose a different travel routine
So after all the talk
He can now take that long walk
Is there a short pier in San Quintien?

At Jardines.
Never disappoints.
So lush and green.

Racing crowd here. Not many but some car race vehicles in Hotel parking.

Mellow...

It wasn't meant to be mean spirited, I was just getting back on topic [I think I'll take a walk]...and I am a smart a** sometimes! I guess I needed to use a smilie to soften the tone a little! :light:

If we are ever in the same town at the same time, I'll buy you a beer!

fishbuck - 5-5-2019 at 08:20 PM

Thanks. On topic!

fishbuck - 5-6-2019 at 07:26 AM

Well, now I have missed Game of Thrones and the Supercross in Las Vagas.
TV not turned on yet.
And I am ok:D

Apparatly not watching tv is not dangerous....

And I woke up organically at 7am.
I never do that.
I did fall asleep very early.

It's still a little cool at night so had to buy some firewood. Not crazy about using wood to heat because my asthma in a little worse today.
But summer is coming.

Seems like mundane things to report but noteworthy because of how dfferent I feel here at Pedregal than I do in Costa Mesa.

Muy tranquilo aki.

well we know he got to the train stop - so I'm assuming soon we should be seeing photos of actual Baja stuff - right?

From Willardguy
"you didn't miss anything in Vegas, zzzzzzzz heartbreaker for AC"

Hoping to catch the mains on rerun.
And absolutely love Hangrown and outdoor moto season.
I am craving for a new motocross bike. I thinking Yamaha
This time. YZ450F.
But the Husky and KTMs are cool.
After my Maico period I promised myself never to buy a European bike again. Japanese bikes only...
But that Husky!

JMO....but I'd hang up the mx gear and hit the trails with Larry, this man has it dialed!

fishbuck - 5-6-2019 at 04:35 PM

Probably the smart idea.. but that husky!

fishbuck - 5-6-2019 at 04:41 PM

Digging myself deeper.
I talked to a Chava, a local home builder.
We picked out a good spot for the septic tank.
And he is coming back tomorrow with an arcateck.
I know spelled wrong... best I can do right now.
Time for a drive around my neighborhood.
Little car holding up fine now. I air the tires way up and it seems better.
The tires are to small for a rough ride from high air pressure. Opposite of my truck and better for the rims...

Two photos from Fishbuck today...

David K - 5-6-2019 at 05:06 PM

Not many pictures between here and the gate.
I was busy.
On my way to fix the 1st tire.
The other flat minispare is still in the car. She limped in on a wing and a prayer.

LLANTERA HO!
This guy is supposedly open early and all the time.
Closed for me.
Keep walking...

One more just now...

David K - 5-6-2019 at 05:43 PM

Up early. Looking for closest tire shop.

JoeJustJoe - 5-6-2019 at 06:43 PM

It looks like a badly rusted and badly bent tire rim on the right side. Hardly something you would find on a fairly new rental car.

The rim would most likely have to be replaced along with replacing the tire or fixing the flat.

fishbuck - 5-6-2019 at 07:04 PM

Or a big f-ing hammer to "repair" it.

fishbuck - 5-6-2019 at 09:20 PM

Back at Resturant Villa.
Very comfie and like home to me. The hotel was my basecamp for many trips and when I am in town.
I started off at Hotel Chavez across the street.
It was my 1st.
It very reasonable and I think was about $20/nite back then. My 1st stop on my 1st trip on my own down the peninsula.
I had camping gear but had a $20/nite hotel budget and only camped once. And that was on a beach with a girl I met in La Paz.

fishbuck - 5-6-2019 at 09:32 PM

I went to the Old Mill 1st tonight. It was empty.
I had heard of a new restuarant over there. Eucalipto. 10 or so tables and it was packed.
A hamburger was $10 and all the prices were in US Dollars.
I'll save it for another day when I can enjoy it more.
I getting into a Baja daze that always seems to get me for a few days.
The Old Pier area has totally been improved and even has a public restroom and a patio with picnic tables. And a new fish cleaning station with running water. All fairly new.
I saw a few fish... yes in a fishbucket.
I don't think the fisherman was from Nantucket. Unless they speak spanish there...
Apperently there are plenty of short White sesbass in the bay. At least one bucket full;)
He said the were delicious and I think he was fishing for his family.

fishbuck - 5-7-2019 at 08:51 AM

Goodmorning all.
Burned almost 2 bundles of wood last night. Wasn't as cold but I like it warm. Although it is difficult to sleep when needing to stoke a fire every 2 hours.
Even still I feel very rested and very unconcerned about much.
I need to wait around for the propane truck to fill my tank, also new.
Word is he says early but takes all day to get here.
So I'll try and take some "postcard" type photos around here today.
I hope the struggle to get here came across in the early pics.
Always different, always worth it, always amazing.

Very nice house forsale here and a good price.
I think it was "Fitzgaralds's" back in the day. A small fishing motel.

From $250,000 in 4/20/18 to $139,000 today , speaks volumes ....

The gauge to use is that anything priced in US Dollar's in Mexico is for SURE overpriced ....

I saw that too. Let that be a lesson to me... don't over build or over invest. You won't get the money back during you life time.
But I would love to know the original cost to buy the lot and build the house.

I'm in heaven

One of my favorite places in Baja. [Baja Jardines Restaurant]

Words cannot describe it.

It's a jungle out there!

What a relief!
Anybody who follows along can understand how much this means to me.

If you haven't been to Jardines please visit there on your next trip.
The hotel was very dog-friendly and Baja 1000 big white boy friendly.
I guess those guys need to be big to manhandle the tires and other equipment. And they really enjoyed the bar too.
I ate in the dining room this time.

And one very expensive smile.
Free of charge!

It was chilly the 1st 2 nights.
Not as cool tonight.
My fireplace in my master bedroom. Living room has a fireplace too.

My new view of the world.

This place has windows and views to die for!

What lucky guy lives in this house?

Who could it be?

Little white car is getting in the grove now. He likes baja-ing around.
A few years from now a Mexican mom will have it and she will surprise you where she can go with her kids in it.
I see in now and then in the "back country".
Then I feel silly that I was scared...

Yes it's real. The sunset... not the smile. Not real but genuine...

sometime in the early 80's I picked up a brochure at a fred hall show selling lots on the pedregal for $25k, I seriously considered it, I would have lasted maybe a month!

Of that mess, here is the photo link:
https://i.postimg.cc/2bvJ9rGX/20190507-091027.jpg
This is a thumbnail photo link.

Now, to post on Nomad, it needs to have tags added on each side of the link: . The =320x part is usually to make sure it stays within Nomad limits. 800 is the max. This photo at full size is blurry because it is a thumbnail link so I dropped down the size.

Mike, I have no problem helping Baja Nomads... even the weirdo ones! LOL

fishbuck - 5-7-2019 at 11:38 AM

I don't have any cute dog photos yet but I know where the is the cutest dog I have even seen and will get a pic of him today.

I will post a photo of the dog that gave me this cute little kiss on the back of my calf... watch out... he's sneaky!

But a good dog that I need to try and make friends with. And he isn't the trained attack dog who patrols here everynight with his human.
Thank God he was in his kennel.
They both are now... probably until I leave.

Their job here is to bite strangers. Problem is they only know 3 people. The mom, the dad, and thier benefactor.
So everyone else is a stranger.
Please be aware.
He bite me when I was handing the gate keys to his mom...
He's a good dog but I hope he broke a tooth on me, a canine tooth.
It appears the he got one fang in the skin. He was certainly trying for more...
What a good dog!

Still no gasman.
I would love to sit here all day and look out the windows but my time is running out.
So I guess I leave the money with the caretaker.
I need to go to El Rosario today... and visit Baja Cactus...
Someone their promised me a screaming firetruck ride across the Baja Desert.
Hold onto your hats kids...

Lucky for me!
But I gotta tell you that most of the gringos I see here are much more wierdo to me.
I'm almost embarrassed.
Now I know why the "locals" call it the invasion of the "White walkers".
The are all grey/white haired and a bit sombie-ish.;)

It looks like you are not using the correct upload size? It should be set to 800 pixels. 150 is thumbnail and 320 is small (what the one above is set at). 640 is okay and 800 is the full width of Baja Nomad.

fishbuck - 5-7-2019 at 02:49 PM

You could help me if you can...
What is not boring Chuckie? I'll go find it.
Two flats and a dog bite aren't good enough?
I'm really trying to entertain you all... and for free:bounce:

And the dog tried for me again today when his mom was walking him. He seems to understand a "rock" when he sees it and kept his distance.
But was waiting for me to drop my guard. Not this time Fido!

This foto is a bit blurry and I will try and do better.
This is the front yard at my house.
That is an authentic rail from the Old English colony's failed attempt for a rail line.
Seems plans changed after they dropped the Locamotive in the drink when unloading it from a ship to a barge to bring it into the bay.
The plan was to save a lot of rowing that was necessary due to the shallow bay unable to accomdate a large ship.
The rail would have run from the Old Mill, across a jetty that is still there today and is used for a powerline to the anttena volcano.
If the picture was clear enough it was show the remains of the Old Pier.
With no engine the Old English decided to use the rails as pier pilings. They are still there today.
The was a hotel over there called the Old Pier. I was in there once. It was abandoned. But it must have been fun in it's day. The bar was almost as they left it. Very festive with fish painted on the walls.
It has since been demolished. But the grand staircase is still there. It runs from a high bluff to the sand and bay.
It leads to nowhere now. But at one point it was a stairway to adventure...
It will be there forever but the story is somewhat already lost to time...

Achitect was here and we discuss a plan to draw up a house. Home builder was with him and we decided where to put the septic tank.
Gasman came at 4pm. Said early am.
And the dog tried for me again.
He and his mom came over to help with the gas man. His mom thinks he doesn't like me now. He picks me out even with others around.
I guess he doesn't like my haircut either...

So he has very good taste in men...

Ok. Time for a 25 minute bumpy ride to town.
A benefit of Berrymex and Driscoll is the 1st portion of the road from the highway is graded and oiled I think. Some hard flat crust.
The produce was getting wrecked by the road so it got fixed for the semis full of berries...
Much more going on now than when I got here in 2005-6.
The areas they farm now with tomato tents where wind blown waste lands that some poor fool tried to dry farm.
Now white tents as far as the eye can see.
A peek inside indicates why. Super lush in there... anything will grow here... in those tents.

There cannot be any spaces. There is a space before the https://.

On the other issue, is your camera set to reduce ahead of putting onto Post Images? The majority of photos you are emailing me are full size and that is good for quality, then I load it onto Post Images where they are sized for Nomad (800 pixels). The exception was the bruised arm photo which was loaded small or ?.

Here is the one photo you sent this afternoon... I will put it in the Graham thread as requested.

Paco Facullo - 5-7-2019 at 06:10 PM

Blackwolfmt, great idea....

That be one of my tricks, I always bring a big box of Dog treats.

Baja Dogs are are sometimes a bit skeptical of treats as their not use to people being kind to them but you just need to go slow.....

Also when I stopped to get my tires filled, after lowering them on the rocky road , the tire Guy at the hwy 5 and 1 junction has about 15 dogs so that depleted my box a lot ! So bring plenty.....

The exception was the bruised arm photo which was loaded small or ?.

Here is the one photo you sent this afternoon... I will put it in the Graham thread as requested.

Ok thanks. This is my kayak collection. Why do I need so many?

They belong to the homeowner and he stores them here.
Mine to use whenever I want.
Who wants to go kayaking?

On the way home I checked out 2 more of the supermacados in town. The mom and pops.
Amazing.
One has a clothing dept upstairs.
I ended up back at Calimex because the others didn't have fire wood. Lena.
If you are on your way south this is your last chance for a while to shop in a surpermarket type store. I think there are 4 here on the ( far) end of town. All close.
Dog tried for me at the gate out and then back. His mom opened the gate so I didn't have to get out. When I came home tonight. Smart move.
I think she can tell I have had enough.
My mistake was talking friendly with him at first so he didn't respect me.
He may be able to bite... but he can't throw a rock anywhere near as hard as I can.
And I owe him one. It might be his last.
Don't try to be friendly too a Mexican(dog). They see it as a sign of weakness. And start to cross boundries they shouldn't.
It's better if they fear you a little... they respect that and give you your space.
As it should be.

This thread is less about San Quintin and posting pics than it it about a sad individual's mental health deterioration....

Thank you BS Canadian Doctor Dumb flock.

fishbuck - 5-8-2019 at 09:37 AM

I'm a start calling that dog Jed. That will make killing it much easier.

fishbuck - 5-8-2019 at 09:44 AM

Goodmorming everyone else.
Last full day here.
Pretty day.
Will try for El Rosario in a bit.
Will look for cute ( non-biting) dogs to photo and try to blow a little sunshine up everyones tailpipe.
DK style. No more reality.;)
Or I can just report what really happens in Baja...
If you can take it....;)

Dogs are good judges of people. That dog can sense you are a dangerous nut case!

If you attack and injure your neighbor’s dog, your neighbor may respond in kind.

If he was that smart... he wouldn't mess with me... like you are...
Will your neighbors avenge you... I doubt it...
It would be a public service... they would thank me.

Wednesday's Photos from Fishbuck/ San Quintín

David K - 5-8-2019 at 01:47 PM

Am I inside or outside?

Please don't pick on me. Yes, I need a haircut and a shave... and probably some plastic surgery to me Baja Nomad standards.
I can do the 1st two today before my firetruck ride in El Rosario today.
You can send my plastic surgery money to my Go fund me account.
Like a billion dollars worth...

View from the thrown room

I never want to leave this room again!

With chandelier

The gameroom "disco" has two bunkrooms for "crew quarters". 6 beds. Left side.
For the nephews and nieces of the Prince.
The future royals no doubt.
That house is even more "wow factor".

Paco Facullo - 5-8-2019 at 01:58 PM

You are outside.

I really like your views !!!

Not to worry about your looks, you fit right in for Baja..

BornFisher - 5-8-2019 at 06:23 PM

Is your dad, AKA Chief Buck and a Half, really Bruce Dern?
Something about that look!!

More Wednesday Photos from Fishbuck/ San Quintín & El Rosario

David K - 5-8-2019 at 06:56 PM

This house is a marvel...
I hope I can do as well with mine.

Old English Cemetery in far background.

And go to hiway Baja.
If I can get past that dog...

Gotta shave before my Firetruck ride.

They knocked the baja of this land about 10 years ago.
It sat fallow.
Glad to see some crops there!

Must have caught him during siesta. He really is a food dog.
Maybe my tough act was what he wanted.

His German cousin on the other hand... he doesn't bark... unless commanded to do so.
He sits calmly and alertly at all times.
He doesn't like his picture taken... security reasons...

Por favor, you go 1st Sr. Truck [Mike sent me two other photos of the truck nearing him, as well]

Where's Wierdo?
The hint is obvious.

[Books donated and sold at Baja Cactus Motel for funding to Halcones del Desierto emergency rescue service and fire station construction]

My helicopter was fueled and ready for rescue.

Unfortunately, the Fire Capitan was out on a call...
Now I have a reason to return☺

Thursday morning's photos from Fishbuck:

David K - 5-9-2019 at 08:40 AM

Since El Capitan Antonio was busy, he is always busy, I decided to go to the Museo.
It was closed. But I 'll go back.

So I checked on the local Real Estate market in El Rosario.
Nice little house for someone. I think it has windows...
Only one bath though ... well 1/4 bath you could say...
Far, far,... far left of house.

So I decide to gas back to the... fire station... which we also use as a Pemex.

While I was there, I polished up our best truck

But this is the truck I like best.

Pumper Engine Tango44 ready, SIR!

Please stop by and make a contribution. You will be saving lives if you do.

That's right.
Any questions...
I didn't think so.;)

Fire/Airman Fishbuck ready for duty El Capitan, Sir!
So ready!

I mean, what's not to like.
Muy guapo!

Must have finally got a piece of manzanilla!
Wow!

My most creative fire yet. Vertical helps with smoke flow.
As far back as possible.
This is an awesome fireplace. Never seen one like it.
Yes, steel liner and side vents top and bottom that give heat out.
Fancy

fishbuck - 5-9-2019 at 09:09 AM

Thank you DK.
Yesterday was full of wonder and excitement for me.
I am so glad I got to El Rosario.
It's a short distance from San Quintin and a world of difference. It really makes you want to turn the corner and head into "the real" Baja...
I will be a little busy today.
Time to return to South California.
I still have a few loose ends to take care of.
Mostly medical...
But I'll be fine after a little surgical rework. I think I will give those fine medical professional at Scripps a crack at me.
I hear they pretty good:cool:
I have some more photos to post and thank you to mi amigo DavidK for the help. I shall master it myself soon.
But probably nothing today until I get to the gate...
Long day ahead...
Time to close up the fishcamp and saw goodbye to my favorite dog... if he will let me leave.
I think his mom had a little talk with him... he seems to be tolerating me now...
I sure hope he remembers me when I get back in a week or so...
The intiation process is a little... pointed with him... prefering not to go through it again...
But I think were good now... his mom doesn't let me get of the car anymore though... she comes out and unlocks the gate for me...
Maybe that's what I was doing wrong... trying to take his mom's job away... he sure showed me what's up....

Thank you for following along and I'll see you at the gate.

I hope some of the pics will inspire some me of you to adventure south...
Thank you to all my fellow Baja Nomads who have shared your trips south with me. I lived vicariously through you and you helped me keep my dream alive during to years-long periods that life prevented me from being there myself.
I am indebted to you. I hope you will visit my fishcamp and collect on that.

¡Salud!

So does the Buck stops here? We`ve enjoyed tagging along!

David K - 5-9-2019 at 09:46 AM

You are welcome, Mike.
I never dreamed you would send me 50 photos... but I got most of them posted for you. Give me a call when you are back and I will talk you through how to post photos for next time...
Did I earn a seat for a plane ride?
Take care! It is wet and drizzly here in North County San Diego.

Egomania - Wikipedia

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Egomania
Egomania is preoccupation with one's self and applies to anyone who follows one's own ungoverned impulses and is possessed by delusions of personal greatness and feels a lack of appreciation. Someone suffering from this extreme egocentric focus is an egomaniac. The condition is psychologically abnormal.

I don’t think fishbutt is an egomaniac. I think he is just a weird dude who shares too much.
