Shari,
You and Juan are really "living on the edge":o :wow: :saint:

Glad you are wringing the mop rather than your hands....

Great pic, Shari.

Just tie yourself to the mast, eh?!

woody with a view - 10-7-2014 at 06:26 PM

I've always heard lobster like stormy conditions. something about stirring up the smells and they get crawling?

bajacalifornian - 10-7-2014 at 07:43 PM

Glad you're not starring this one down?

Super Typhoon Vongfong . . .

Super Typhoon Vongfong . . .

As of 3 a.m. Japanese time Wednesday (2 p.m. EDT Tuesday in the U.S.), the eye of Vongfong was about 700 miles south-southeast of Kadena Air Base on Okinawa, moving west at about 10 mph.

Maximum sustained winds had skyrocketed to an estimated 180 mph, the equivalent of a potentially catastrophic Category 5 hurricane, according to the U.S. military's Joint Typhoon Warning Center.

Vongfong became the fifth super typhoon (150 mph max sustained winds or higher) of 2014.

According to the Japan Meteorological Agency, Vongfong has now surpassed Genevieve for the most intense western Pacific typhoon of 2014 by estimated central pressure (900 millibars). On the JMA typhoon intensity scale, Vongfong is the third "violent typhoon" of 2014, following Genevieve and Halong.

"It's safe to say Vongfong is the strongest storm on earth since Haiyan last year," said Michael Lowry, storm specialist for The Weather Channel. Haiyan killed over 6,000 people when it slammed into the Philippines in November 2013 with maximum sustained winds estimated at 195 mph by JTWC.

Wow...that sure puts things in perspective for us moaning about some rain & gale force winds. I can only imagine the horror of a monster like that...I hope they have good shelters ready...the carnage will be terrible.

So I wont whine about the 25 knots of wind and rain we are STILL getting...no laundry for me today...we did see a rainbow a half hour ago when the sun peeped out for a minute!

DENNIS - 10-8-2014 at 08:30 AM

Still nothing here. I'm not complaining.......just hoping to get the flowers watered.

Russ - 10-8-2014 at 08:39 AM

We still don't have water here for laundry but clear skies SSW 7mph ~ 85º Niiiice:spingrin:

LA Bay only received 1 1/2 days of drizzle rain, and humidity. storms seems to be breaking up here. No wind to speak of.

shari - 10-8-2014 at 11:55 AM

thank you Ged...I find storms so powerfully beautiful that I want to capture that feeling. Today Simon is a different animal. We are getting the backspin so it is blowing strong westerlies so the rain has spun back again and the swell is battering the coast on this side of Asuncion. Some big boulders fell into the blowhole area and our beach is again exposed rock with no sand. No laundry today.

Here is what it looked like this morning.

Now at mid day the wind shifted to the west and is blowing even harder which will help dry things out everywhere...got some sunshine between squalls too.

it'll be back to this side of paradise by the weekend......

shari - 10-8-2014 at 02:16 PM

I am happy to report the sun is out, wind has dropped to 15 knots and laundry is in the machine....lots of wet towels to wash! Hope to be fishing by the day after tomorrow...

Udo - 10-8-2014 at 02:27 PM

That second shot is highly dramatic, Shari...great going!

pacsur - 10-8-2014 at 02:48 PM

I have a friend heading south from Ensenada right now-2:45pm pacific time, does anybody have any current info on road south of El Rosario? Thanks

shari - 10-8-2014 at 03:55 PM

well...perhaps doing laundry was a bit optimistic today...the wind picked up again so all the clean towels blew off the line...sheesh...but the sun is shining now and got most of the houses mopped & drying out.

I heard the road was fine by the way.

Reports are that there's been constant rain, but traffic continues to flow both north and south through El Rosario as of mid-day today.

bajabuddha - 10-8-2014 at 05:33 PM

Simon is alive and well from here west at the moment. Got up at 4 am to see the Bad Moon, and Simon Sez .... NO. Glad i'm not in the AZ corridor right now.

Now what the hell is that purple blob down there off the tip?Is this "Trudy" being born?

woody with a view - 10-9-2014 at 09:08 AM

Zola - 10-9-2014 at 11:38 AM

The dirt roads to Punta San Carlos can become dangerous after even a "normal" overnight rainfall. Stretches of the road that quickly become very muddy, including a few on significant vertical inclines and declines. I cannot imagine what must be the condition of those roads after 12.5 inches of rain in one night.

Any word on Highway 1 from Ensenada to La Paz or any points in-between?

Sonora Wind - 10-9-2014 at 12:50 PM

Rumor has it 12.5" of rain at Punta San Carlos yesterday. Just South of El Rosario.
Rumor Control must not be operational due to all the wind.

woody with a view - 10-9-2014 at 01:46 PM

surf must be EPIC right now and they're trying to work crowd control!

Tomas Tierra - 10-9-2014 at 05:01 PM

If it did rain that much at PSC you wouldn't be able even to walk to the chitter for a week!

Sounds like a pancake batter mess!

Could be real messy....here is a dry day:

Sonora Wind - 10-14-2014 at 06:29 AM

Doing Great David K.

We just got back last night. San Quintin didn't look any worse for the ware from Simon. Saw a few mudd holes, but all roads passable. Caught a few yellow toads. Hope all is well with you and yours.

Tomas Tierra - 10-14-2014 at 09:46 AM

How was the dirt road out from the point Sonora Wind??

Sonora Wind - 10-14-2014 at 10:33 AM

I did not get past Don Eddie's, but others in the camp had been out and had no issues. Road to Lorenzzo's was muddy but passable. On the return trip ( During the day ) San Vincente north looked dryer than a popcorn fart.

Tomas Tierra - 10-14-2014 at 11:01 AM

I thought maybe you had traveled from PTA. San Carlos.. Doesn't sound like it..
Glad you had a good trip home!
