Whenever I get wound up about some stupid argument on Baja Nomads, I'm going to return to this thread to remind myself why I came here and why I'll keep coming back.

I recently tricked Alex into trying one of these.

Told him it tasted like cantaloupe.

Coyote Bay - Ye Olde Hitchin' Tree and Osprey Lookout...saved by request of Baja author & explorer Earl Stanley Gardner back in the day when the sea wall was being built.

As usual we had stayed later than intended and were scrambling on the tops of cliffs to get back before dark. The sun turned the sky flaming red and I fumbled for the pocket camera to get a shot.

Yes, good call. And BTW, I had to look up Juncalito - I didn't know what the place was called. It was easy on the eyes.

David K - 5-15-2015 at 10:28 AM

I think it was Juncalito where Baja Angel saw her first big mango tree loaded with fruit!

Juncalito was a shark fishing camp led by Ramon Villalejo and his 90 year old father... when we hired him to take us fishing in 1973.

It's just a desert with a little pink and purple mixed in.

Taken a few hours before Kurt Caselli would lose his life in the Baja 1000 a few miles down this road.....

So how were her mangos?

David K - 5-17-2015 at 05:38 PM

I don't know who owned the tree... it is visible from Hwy. 1. Her (Baja Angel's) first seen mango tree with fruit.

Yes I'm pretty sure it is David but not certain---for some reason I have a memory of that Agave being somewhere else. Sure looks like Berrendo!

Hayb, I'm in love with your shot, do you sell prints?
Pompano, do the voices in your tacklebox say to sell prints?
Need some inspiration for my rv before I get there.

Calendar art?

AKgringo - 5-25-2015 at 07:30 PM

Cool picture Pomp! Eleven more pin-ups like that and you can put out a calendar!
A few months with shots of Co-Pilot will help the sales.

[Edited on 5-26-2015 by AKgringo]

David K - 5-26-2015 at 07:59 AM

The photo on the left from Pompano appears in the 1967 Erle Stanley Gardner book, 'Off the Beaten Track in Baja'. It mostly covers Gardner's Feb., 1966 expedition but some other trips and stories are included. Erle wrote 7 Baja adventure books (1948-1969), all while writing his mystery novels and Perry Mason stories (used for TV)... paid for the Baja expeditions that included helicopters, planes, and all sorts of advanced off road vehicles made by J.W. Black.
