overcast, 70, calm, slight misting at times with a few drops of rain here in Asuncion. Sure would like a report from Mag Bay or Constiticion...san ignacio? Wonder if they have power?

Mula - 6-8-2015 at 06:25 AM

Steady howling wind and rain finally quit at 6:30 this morning.

Still blowing and drizzling a little here in Lopez Mateos.

Power did not go out and still have internet.

Life is good. Just a lot of muddy streets.

Our storm came in during the darkness with strong winds and rain. Not heavy rain but came down steadily until this morning. We are still in dark clouds and the Sierra Laguna is not visible. The ocean was very angry yesterday afternoon with beautiful views out at clouds over the Pacific. My yard is dirty with palm debris but no damage. Good luck Loreto and Mulege. Going out for a morning walk. Tio

Osprey - 6-8-2015 at 07:00 AM

Kudos to the weatherman. This time the predictions held true, start to finish (I guess it's not over yet but still right on line). Took the buoys, airplanes, the works but it was a good job and everybody down this way got info they could use and count on.

I'll post again about damage in Los Cabos when it hits the news. No real damage here in East Cape that I know about -- we kept our services throughout.

Anyone need 350 large, hard, green mangos? I think I'll pick some of them up but the ones that do mature properly will all do it at the same time and within a day or two and I just can't eat that many smoothies in two days.

shari - 6-8-2015 at 07:07 AM

what a relief for those of you who just got rain but not much damage...I sure would like some mangos! Let's hope Mulege can report the same after today.

thanks so much for posting here to let us know what's up...so I will take the laundry in but not water the garden perhaps.

moving toward the north-northwest near 15 mph (24 km/h), and this
general motion is expected to continue through Tuesday. On the
forecast track the center of Blanca will move near or over portions
of the southern and central Baja California peninsula today through
Tuesday.

Maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 45 mph (75 km/h) with
higher gusts. Additional weakening is forecast, and Blanca is
expected to weaken to a tropical depression by tonight. Blanca will
likely dissipate near or over central or northern portions of the
Baja California peninsula on Tuesday.

Just looked at the Mulege webcam,, it is still on at 8am MDT
looks like the rio is running west of town but no word from anyone yet in town from the bridge out...
At this point the rio does not look to be overbearing.... but if it is high tide the estuary will be overflowing..

chuckie - 6-8-2015 at 07:18 AM

What Ross said.....BUT if it's raining like that in the Mountains....???? Watch out...takes a while for the water to come down.....

Hook - 6-8-2015 at 07:19 AM

Any boats in Caleta San Juanico have the center of the disturbance virtually right over them.

Loreto getting a lot, too, it would seem. No one from there reporting in. :?:

I guess we can assume that power is down in Loreto. Anybody???

High tide will probably be in the late afternoon, if our tides over here are any indication. It should be passed Mulege by then.

Looks like we in Sonora will have taken the baton from you, by then.

That was 2-3 hours ago.

Katiejay99 - 6-8-2015 at 07:36 AM

Like tio said, it came and it went and left little to no damage. It blew pretty good most of the night. I lost some palm leaves on a roof and some branches on a few trees but nothing else. All is good!

CJ - 6-8-2015 at 07:44 AM

8:40 am. in Loreto...the rain has stopped for now. Lots of clouds can barely see Isla Coronado, can't see Carmen from the front porch. The wind is about the same 35 mph or so. No damage. We really haven't gotten that much rain; but my roof leaks in the usual places....prolly be sunny before the day is over....

KaceyJ - 6-8-2015 at 08:01 AM

Looks like it may be headed out into the gulf

Could pick up some steam (literally) and bring heavier than anticipated rains to the north

Mulege at 8AM PDT

MulegeAL - 6-8-2015 at 08:11 AM

Saul says there have been no flood warnings issued by the local authorities (at this time). Power and phones working.

Mulege cam shows water on the old ballfield, but not as bad as Odile.

Will call him later today for an update.

A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for...
* La Paz to Loreto
* Santa Fe to Punta Abreojos

A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for...
* North of Loreto to Mulege

DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK
------------------------------
At 900 AM MDT (1500 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Blanca was
located near latitude 25.1 North, longitude 112.0 West. Blanca is
moving toward the north-northwest near 15 mph (24 km/h), and this
general motion is expected to continue through Tuesday. On the
forecast track the center of Blanca will move near or over portions
of the southern and central Baja California peninsula today through
Tuesday.

Maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 40 mph (65 km/h) with
higher gusts. Additional weakening is forecast during the next day
or so, and Blanca is expected to degenerate into a remnant low by
Tuesday.

Tropical storm force winds extend outward up to 115 miles (185 km)
from the center. An unofficial weather station at Loreto, on the
east coast of Baja California Sur, recently reported a wind gust to
46 mph (74 km/h).

The estimated minimum central pressure is 996 mb (29.42 inches).

HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND
----------------------
WIND: Tropical storm conditions will continue within portions of
the warning area today. Tropical storm conditions are possible
within the watch area today.

RAINFALL: Blanca is expected to produce total rainfall
accumulations of 3 to 5 inches over much of Baja California Sur and
the southern half of the state of Baja California, with isolated
maximum amounts of 8 inches over Baja California Sur. There was an
unofficial rainfall total of 5.18 inches reported at Loreto.
These
rains could produce life-threatening flash floods and mud slides.
Rainfall associated with Blanca will begin to affect the
southwestern United States today.

SURF: Swells generated by Blanca near the coast of the Baja
California peninsula are expected to begin to diminish later today,
For additional information, please consult products from your local
weather office.

TROPICAL STORM BLANCA DISCUSSION NUMBER 32
900 AM MDT MON JUN 08 2015

Satellite images and surface observations indicate that Blanca made
landfall near Puerto Cortes on Isla Santa Margarita around 1200
UTC with an estimated landfall intensity of 40 kt. Since that time,
some weakening has likely occurred and the current intensity is
reduced to 35 kt. Blanca should continue to weaken over the next
day or so as it interacts with the terrain of the Baja California
peninsula and continues to be influenced by strong shear. The
system should become a tropical depression by this evening, and
degenerate into a remnant low by Tuesday. The official intensity
forecast is close to the intensity model consensus.

The motion estimate remains at 345/13 kt. This general motion,
between a low- to mid-level high to the east of Blanca and a
mid-level low to the west
, is likely to continue until the cyclone
dissipates. The official track forecast is similar to the previous
one, and remains close to the dynamical model consensus.

Al, Pac just reported the rio is up a meter and rising. My side street has dumped a foot of mud on the new road. People are walkingup into the hills. Heavy rains for the last 4 hours.

Glad to hear that Blanca played nicely in Las Tunas. Did you get much in the way of rain? While I'm sure some rain would be welcome, I could just see downtown Todos Santos turning into one big running arroyo with all of the roads dug up.

Katiejay99 - 6-8-2015 at 09:39 AM

I'm going into town in an hour so I'll see what it's like. We really didn't get much out here where I am. I have to run out to Elias Calles so I'll be able to see around the area but really it wasn't a big deal here.

Thank's Willy You got it posted before I could enter my question Be safe.

Zola - 6-8-2015 at 10:20 AM

Here in San Juanico it has been raining non-stop since the wee hours (I am not sure exactly when it started, but probably sometime shortly after midnight). Until now the wind has been light, and it has just been steady rain. Now the rain has relented a little for the first time since last night, but the winds have picked up some, nothing furious, but the wind has started to blow.

It looks as though Blanca traveled out again to sea and will make landfall a second time to the southeast of San Juanico and will travel towards San Ignacio and Mulege. It is dumping a lot of rain, mostly non-stop. It is not heavy, heavy rain (so far), but it has been raining for nearly twelve hours...

Looks like it just stopped raining there on the M cam. Can see all the way down to the microwave towers now.

Here in GN started a light rain around 3-4 am, wind calmed down.

More steady rain about an hour ago (12:00), CFE crews waiting all over the place. So far we´ve got power and comunications, telmex internet really slow, but thats old news.

Theres still traffic north and south on MX1, the vados from here to Nvo Rosarito are still passable.

Bob and Susan - 6-8-2015 at 11:30 AM

but lots of wind still

a little faster than before

maybe we are in the "eye"

EngineerMike - 6-8-2015 at 11:50 AM

Just talked to Bill Havig on Skype, they live in the Oasis & are staying at Hotel Mulege. No rain currently & report is river is handling the runoff. No power outage in town but south side of river has had short outages this a.m.
So far so good; this afternoon's rain & high tide will tell the tale.

capitolkat - 6-8-2015 at 11:55 AM

La Paz got virtually no rain. winds for 10 hours or so yesterday stirred up huge dust storms, and dust is everywhere. My pool is covered in dirt, sifted through doors and windows, wife is cleaning steadily and I've finally got the pool vacuumed. pretty much passed to the west.

willyAirstream - 6-8-2015 at 12:18 PM

Rain and wind just stopped. River has not risen and rumors from Bomberos and others is that the mountains didn't get much rain. People along the river by my place are packed and ready to vacate, full trailers everywhere. CFE is prepared, must be 20 guys at Mulege Hotel. Pinquenos is open, Manuel Cuesta is open, Alba closed, clinic closed, most stores closed and long line for gas. It could be over. Hook, the last one took about an hour to go from river bank to Sauls. There are no made made obstacles, except for the huge dirt dam by La Prisimo, sp. I took pics of the river, but it is not worth posting them, it looks normal.
Calm and a hint of sun here now.

At 300 PM MDT (2100 UTC), the center of Tropical Depression Blanca
was located near latitude 26.7 North, longitude 113.0 West. The
depression is moving toward the north-northwest near 17 mph (28
km/h) and this general motion with some decrease in forward speed is
expected over the next day or so. On the forecast track the center
of Blanca will move near or over portions of the central Baja
California peninsula today through Tuesday.

Maximum sustained winds have decreased to near 35 mph (55 km/h) with
higher gusts. Additional weakening is forecast during the next day

The estimated minimum central pressure is 999 mb (29.50 inches).

HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND
----------------------
RAINFALL: Blanca is expected to produce additional rainfall
accumulations of 2 to 4 inches over parts of the central and eastern
Baja California peninsula. Rainfall associated with Blanca will
also begin to affect the southwestern United States this afternoon
through Tuesday.

TROPICAL DEPRESSION BLANCA DISCUSSION NUMBER 33
300 PM MDT MON JUN 08 2015

Blanca's cloud pattern continues to lose organization, and deep
convection is diminishing. Assuming a continued spin down of the
circulation during the day, the current intensity is set at 30 kt.
This is also consistent with the Dvorak intensity estimate from
UW-CIMSS. Continued weakening should occur due to shear and
interaction with the Baja California peninsula, and Blanca is
expected to become a remnant low in about 12 hours. The official
intensity forecast is near the high end of the guidance.

The initial motion is a little faster, or 340/15 kt. Over the next
day or so, Blanca or its remnants should move north-northwestward to
northward in the flow between a high to its east and a low to its
west. The official track forecast is similar to the dynamical
model consensus.

We havent gotten diddely over here, except winds to the mid 30s. All the clouds showing up on infrared just dont have high enough tops to create any rain......at least not yet. Not even trace amounts here. Very disappointing not to get enough to settle the dust.

There could be some storm surge and wave damage to a couple beach side restaurants, though. High tide still 2+ hours away.

David, Windily is a great site, but it is based only on prediction, whereas the others are based on satellite. Even there we have had some differences.

shari - 6-8-2015 at 07:30 PM

well, I'm eating my hat here...we took a butt kicking this afternoon around 1 or so when all of a sudden, it got real hot and BAM a huge wind kicked up from the NE!!! I was confident with the buoy weathers prediction of 15-25 knots and we werent prepared for the 50 knot a$$ kicking wind we got.

Stuff was flying around and Juan & I took turns trying to hold the window out as it was bowing in badly and I really thought it was going to blow out...er in...and we would have had a real disaster on our hands.

My little trailer was being blown so bad I thought it was going over the cliff for sure. It lasted a couple hours, then it rained a bit and the swell got real big and now things have settled down but looks like a bit more rain around.

Lesson learned...dont trust the internet! and put smaller windows in!

So I believe it when the "eye" was over La Bocana...wonder how everyone did there and in Abreojos. How is San Ignacio? Looks like BOLA might get some wind too.

San Juanico was doused with 12+ hours of steady rain. We had some stiff winds this morning, but nothing very severe. There has been minor damage to some homes (so far as I know), and it is probable that there is no access by road to anywhere for the time being. I took my dogs to the beach this evening, and it was very foggy, there was a lot mist and moisture in the air, the sea was jumbled, and they had a blast. It felt like a winter storm in San Diego, except it has never rained for 12 hours straight in San Diego.

Now a new system is forming off the coast of Central America. So long as these next storms travel straight out to sea, like they're supposed to do at this time of year, all is good.

latest NOAA model run doesn't show anything forming downstream for the next week.

like the climate, things may change!

Blanca turned out to be mainly a wind event here - we did get rain starting around midnight Sunday night, but it was minimal rain.

Power out from middle of the night Sunday til Monday evening.

As the weather people predicted, sounds like points north of us got much more rain.

Glad to hear everyone's OK - Shari, sounds like you need some hurricane shutters!

I'm glad you guys are fine out there Linda...I always think of you during hurricanes! Indeed this was a good rehearsal for things to come this summer and planning is underway for our windows!

this morning I was the sole walker as it is still misting and socked in with fog...I reveled in it remembering my past life on the wet coast of Vancouver Island where today would be a great day!!!

There is garbage strewn everywhere out here in the bushes at the point as all the town garbage flew out here. One structure blown down in the cove, we lost a plywood roof on a bathroom, peoples lamina flew off, lots of sand everywhere but my plants didnt do too awfully bad!

One of the maps, there from about 6 hours ago, shows it over Punta Prieta on Hwy. 1 and near Gonzaga Bay this afternoon:

Terry of Ignacio Springs (San Ignacio) B&B just posted the following:

"Great news, the hurricane has passed and other than a little flooding in the kitchen and shower house, all is dry. We thought we were not going to be flooded at all as it seemed to be mostly over and so Gary and our friend Pete who is here with us, went back to the office to watch the NHL playoff game that they were missing here at our safe house. All of a sudden there was water at their feet. They checked the river and the water was up a bit, drove to the dam where the water was going over about a foot deep but the worst flooding was in the small arroyo between our place and the highway, near Fong's. They made it back here last night through that water and went back to check this morning and the passage was shorter and easier. We are very thankful, all the yurts are dry, the pets are safe. We will let things dry out a little but we will be sleeping at home tonight."

30 mph winds near Gonzaga? Piece of cake. Many of us have chased our canopies into the Cortez on a typical day in that area!

Am glad Blanca was mostly a bust...but it sure seems early in the year.
