And yet the desert tortiose is an endangered species? Isn't the tortiose endangering itself?

BMG - 12-11-2007 at 09:11 PM

Like maybe a WEEK LATE!

I guess it's time to admit my former profession. I used to be a rodeo turtle rider. Nothing like a bucking turtle rider to thrill the audiences. It was dangerous but we had terrific rodeo clowns to protect us. They were actually old, retired rodeo clowns but they didn't need to be too fast anymore anyway. My favorite clown was Gimpy Morgan. He only had one leg and couldn't hear too well but being almost blind was the biggest problem he had. But good ol' Ginpy would get right in there and draw the raging turtle's attention allowing the rider that extra 10 minutes to get away and escape serious injury. I finally gave up turtle riding due to a serious rash I developed from riding the turtles bareback. Boy, those were the days though.

Paulina - 12-11-2007 at 09:18 PM

If this link works, then you will see that some turtles have what it takes to make a difference.

No Kate, it's supposed to be turtle tricks. This turtle has learned tricks such as playing dead, rolling over and freezing. He works with special needs kids. I was afraid that I wouldn't link it correctly....
P<*)))><
ps. there is usually a commerical before the video plays.

Natalie Ann - 12-11-2007 at 10:05 PM

I saw the video turtle do tricks! Kinda interesting... and he had leaned how to 'right' himself - no soup bowls in this guy's future. But the 'trainer'... he's sumthin' else. Said he was Elias Gozales' shrink.... Then at the end he tries to work in a little Pokemon ad. Yep I did enjoy that video, Paulina.

When I was under 5 I had a box turtle - little turtle bowl with places for him to crawl and all. Real nice little fella - not the dimestore painted variety. One morning the little guy was no where to be found, though we looked and looked all day - my mother muttering something about the stink this was gonna raise. I was incredibly sad we could not find him. Later in the year, my dad rolled back a corner of the rug to put up the Christmas tree... and there was my little ol' dried up turtle. But he didn't smell.... ever.:?::dudette:

Turtle tricks? I have some pet rocks. Their names are Rocky, Rocky II, Rocky III and Spot. Spot is a snowflake obsidian. ("You're so pretty, aren't you Spot, yes you are so pretty - yes you are.") They are well trained and can sit, play dead and stay - but it's difficult to tell the difference.

Why its Katie the Kangaroo!!

Believe it or not I used to do a dance routine to this little diddy. I could go on.....

gore?? did you say "gore"????

Al Gore invented elks, and may even have one for a pet, but I doubt that his ilk would approve of that------not natural you know, and elks give off a LOT of heat.

bajajudy - 12-12-2007 at 06:01 PM

Ok team Nomad
Time for some more fun, dont you think?

After an extensive search on the internet, I was unable to find the rest of the words to Katie the Kangaroo. Although I did find that it was written by someone named M Rosette and there used to be recordings of it....which is of course is what I danced to.

How is that breakfast, fdt. Paula my underside needs painting too....thats my mesa. Docs mom is getting flashbacks...not a good sign. Comitan is laboring under the false impression that I actually wear skirts. Al has on disco slippers....with or without socks I cant remember and I am certainaly not going back and read all this BS to find out
anyone else feeling highjinxed, highjacked, lowjacked, under the table jacked. we had a flat tire the other day and I got to use a JACK....

Paula - 12-12-2007 at 06:50 PM

Judy,
Was it a tap dance you did to Katy the Kangaroo? If it was you can keep on dancin' because all tap dance songs follow a formula. They start out something like:

Katy the kangaroo
liked to dance the hootchie hoo
it made her sweetie say cootchie coo
and the rest is historeeeeeeeeeeeee....

It then generally moves on to expressions of happy-feet glee, such as:

ba dat'n da da da da
doodleioot dee
yazza yazza yazza
o yesiree

etcetera and so forth.

These lyrics are meant to be improvised, rather than memorized, for the sake of spontaneity and utter joy.
When you are ready to stop dancing you can bring it all back home with a simple refrain like:

yes, that Kay was quite a gal,
and the joey in her pouch,
well they called him Hal.

Tis is how I learned it, any way:dudette:

So dance on, girl!!!!!!!!!:tumble::spingrin::bounce::spingrin::tumble:

Paula - 12-12-2007 at 06:57 PM

Of course we can polka, Paula. I come from a family of accordion players and polka dancers... will be like old home week for me. And if Judy agrees, she can dance in either her kangaroo costume or her turtle skirt. Wonder how Al will fare in those slippers - it's a pretty fast-moving dance, ya know.

Tortuga sez he/she'll supply the humor.

Perhaps fdt and the Mrs. will have some polka music on hand. I'm gonna wander over to their radio show and ask them.
