The last week of April I took the coast road past San Juan de la Costa then on up the grade by San Evaristo. The road had some storm damage that was being repaired, so it was one lane in a couple of places, but not a problem.

The statue was at the top of the small pass that leads to San Evaristo, which you can see in the distance in the first photo. My dog wouldn't go near it, and you can see her checking it out from a distance.

It is about ten feet tall and made mostly of scrap metal. I could see the remains of oil drums, roofing materials and all sorts of industrial scrap that had been cut, probably torched and beaten into shape, but I really don't know what his arms and feet are made of.

The last shot is of some really cool sandstone I passed south of the turn toward San Evaristo.

The road up the grade was in pretty fair condition with some work being recently done.

Thanks for the heads up Harald, those google earth photos give a better idea of the size of the statue than mine do.

Another thing I found on my drive that day, is that the aquaculture project north of San Juan de la Costa appeared to be shut down.

I wonder who built it?

And I wonder if they took any pictures of it under construction? It looks like it had to be built in place, and I would love to see some shots of it coming together!

Did this ride North this year for the first time, saw the big guy then and had lunch in the bay. Super cool place and an amazing ride.
