Las Animas

Would someone know of road conditions between La Paz to Las Animas and onto the campground at El Portugues. Google maps shows Hwy 1, 2 hrs/104 kms. I'm driving a 4x4 pickup and camper towing a flat bed trailer with sxs. Many thanks.

I drove that road in late April in my Isuzu Trooper. I did not need 4wd, and the road overall was in good shape. The only parts that were a bit of a challenge were in the process of being upgraded, and are probably better now.

By the way, the aquaculture plant on that road appeared to be shut down when I passed through there. I am curious to know if it has re-opened by now.

Rancho Las Animas is just 2.6 miles east from San Pedro de la Presa (on my map). It is at Km. 68 on that graded road. 10.6 miles from Las Animas (at Km. 85) is the junction to La Soledad, less than a mile away, on a side road.

Edit: there is another Las Animas, along the coast road on this map... near the bottom.

He's talking about a different Las Animas that's on the way to Evaristo. The camp ground is beyond that but still before Evaristo.

OK, yes, the same name is used in the same map area for two different locations. Las Animas = The Spirits (I believe is the translation?)

Do you have the location for this other Las Animas?

Edit: AKgringo provided, below.

On the Benchmark Atlas it scales out to about 18 km north of San Juan de La Costa.

Thanks, AK.
So, the map I posted is the closest, still. I responded on my phone without first looking at my road guide notes or Benchmark map.

Edit: In my Baja Bound Road Guide, I have Rancho Las Animas (the other one) 32.0 miles south from San Evaristo and 11.5 miles north from San Juan de la Costa.

there is no "campground" at El Portugues.
It is a dirty fish camp
you can camp on the beach though

I would not pull a trailer up on that road
you'll be rattled to death
