You say you have a temporary visa, but I think you mean you have temporary residency pre-approval from a Mexican consulate and need to complete the
process at INM in Mexico?
If that's the case, then yes, you should go back and get the proper paperwork. INM in Mexico will want to see proof that it hasn't been more than 30
days from when you entered Mexico until you present yourself at their office to complete the temp. residency. Make sure they mark CANJE on the FMM,
not tourist, or you'll have to start the whole temp. residency application process over again in the US.
