Leaving latter October

BoenBaja - 10-13-2024 at 02:22 PM

Plan on crossing at Tecate then heading over to Mex 1. Stopping at El Trailero for grub then on to either Cueva Pirata in Camalu or San Quintin area for the first night camping. Second day drive to Bahía Asunción. Driving in my one ton GMC 4X4 diesel with an Alaskan camper. Not yet firm on departure date so shoot me a U2U if interested.

There is a secure campground next to Jardines in San Quintin that might work for you.

Jardines Restaurant has always been reliable for good food and a lively family crowd of moms and pops and kids. I tend to eat earlier and have no idea about the bar crowd later in the evening.

Safe travels. Vaya bien.

Los Olivos is the campground.

I've left the last week of October for the last 15 years or so. It was a good time for me and you get to bypass the 1000 prerunners by a small margin. It always seemed really mellow. However, things have changed... You'll have plenty of folks heading down now to beat the crowds that generally start in November. I'm sure you'll be able to tag up with someone. Good luck!

Speaking of Olivos.....

If you are using Hwy 3 to connect with Hwy 1, you will be passing through Olive orchard country. This should be harvest time, so if you have a chance to buy some fresh-cured olives from a roadside vendor, you may be in for a treat!

Yup, there’s some great camping in the SQ area. So far I’ve camped at Don Ramon’s, Los Olivos, Cielito Lindo, El Pabellon, and Fidel’s El Pabellon. Also Cueva Pirata in Camalu.
