Eugenia's Restaurant Guerrero Negro

After a less-than-appetizing dinner at the Halfway Inn (rooms and ambience fantastic, food, meh), went to Eugenia's in town for breakfast the next day. My first visit, and it was nothing short of terrific. The beefsteak rancheros was fantastic, featuring perfectly cooked over-easy eggs with yolks, once broken, that made for something of a breakfast stew-soup that I'll not soon forget. The fruit plate was arranged so beautifully that I almost didn't want to eat it. Apples sliced thinly, cubed cantaloupe that tasted like real cantaloupe as opposed to being hard and tasteless.

It was so good that I returned for lunch. Had a smoked marlin tostada and ceviche negro. It wasn't as good as breakfast, but still fine. The fish in the ceviche was cubed a bit large for my liking and the sauce a bit overwhelming. I would have liked more smoke flavor in the marlin. These are minor quibbles.

The place is small and spotless, including the restrooms. The server was fluent in English. Some Google reviewers report slow service, but I had zero complaints in that regard or, really, in any regard.

We have visited Eugenia's for breakfast probably three or four times. It is always very good food and the service is great.
