ligui - 1-19-2025 at 09:39 AM

Hello everyone !

Just got back from a trip to Mexico. Wanted to let everyone know that rattle snake beach is open for camping again. Just a couple of sites are occupied but more moving in daily

They just recently added this into protection of the Marine national park system and Will not be allowing any development in this beach area :bounce:

So no more watchman or gate?

You just drive in and camp like before? Any idea why they changed this back?

No watchman just head to the beach and find your spot.

Yep new president and she is more into environmental tourism without large development. campgrounds and day use area without the large cost of infrastructure.

Oh need a park pass to camp there to be legal. No one at this time is enforcing it .

But hey guys it time to pay the band. They need fees / same as in the states to up keep the park.

So many times over my years in Mexico a hear the visitors complain about how things could be better. But want free camping and cheap beer.

Be apart of the solution /pay a little / you might get what you want.

where to pay?

What is the km marker nearest that beach? I am pretty sure I have spent the night at the north end of that beach a couple of times using IFA navigation (I follow arroyos).

You turn off to Puerto Escondido take the first dirt road on your right. A slow half a mile you are on the beach camping area .

If you want to get your park pass go to the small harbor in Loreto on the malecon and park offices are there. Easy in and out.

Thanks for the feedback! It appears that I was off by quite a bit about where Rattlesnake Beach is.

Great thing about rattle snake Beach is it is great place to camp when the Norte are blowing.

Puente coyote does a great job of stopping the wind.

Also just short drive to the market at Puerto Escondido.

Football game coverage at Tripui. With great restaurant !

Ligui store just a couple of miles to the south

I mean what more can you ask for ?

Rattlesnake Beach AKA: Playa El Quemado... in 2017

Trip Report lines (with photos):

Puerto Escondido Paved road near Km. 94

Yacht Harbor

The harbor is a mile+ in. Closer to the highway is the Tripui Hotel and RV Park. They offer lawn camping. Very friendly. Camping is $10/pp, RV with hookups is $20/pp and a hotel room is 1,290 pesos (=$64.50).

A bit closer to the highway from Tripui complex is an unsigned dirt road south. It seems to be a secret area but not really, as every spot was occupied by snowbird campers! A sign along the way reads Playa El Quemado. It is 1.5 miles to the mostly rocky beach and spots along the beach between sand hills with brush extend a half mile to the south.

That was me :) I just added that text to iOverlander after hearing from you all.

I don't know how to get rid of the big headline.
