I found that Gonher makes a filter for the Dodge Cummins and I found one after mine started a leak at the Station in Loreto. I figured I would be there for years but I even found one on a Sunday morning.
Fuel filters are a whole different story and I have trouble getting them from the dealer.

Diesel maintenance

Pompano , just a suggestion that could save you a lot of money and heartbreak - do the filter changes yourself.

Most diesels have vertically oriented fuel filters so they can be (COMPLETELY) filled with fuel before they are screwed on. This is important as it can be the cause, as you probably know, to loosing the prime.

A sloppy mechanic can knock dirt into the filters when they're being changed. At the very least , if you decide to have someone else do the work , clean the area near the filter housing before the job is attempted. A little debris in the pump is no fun.

It can be a messy job but once you've done it a couple of times its not so bad . Lero

My Dodge diesel in Loreto started acting up couple years ago, and after a call to my dealer in Oregon, was informed that there is a Cummings shop in LaPaz. So we drove down, and was able to get a filter replaced, and was informed that there are Cummins marine engines in LaPaz, and enough to warrant a shop. Don't remember name, but was there two years ago. Spoke no English. (they don't have to. This is Mexico)

prime

roger---To prime the fuel pump is easy. the lift pump which is located down and to the right of the fuel filter has a arm on it that when operated manually pumps fuel up to the fuel filter thus priming it after changing it then the truck starts right up with out grinding on the starter. There are numerous places in la paz to get cummins parts as 80% of the hotel cruisers use cummins engines. fishin rich

Willie Nelson has recently started a company to produce and distribute it.

On The Road Again... with Bio-Diesel

Farm Aid Co-Founder Willie Nelson has put up a billboard to attract truckers to use the alternative bio-diesel fuel. Called BioWillie, the fuel is made from vegetable oils, like soybeans, and can be burned without modifying for diesel truck engines.

Says Willie:

"There is really no need going around starting wars over oil. We have it here at home. We have the necessary product, the farmers can grow it."

Neil Young used the alternative fuel to help make a difference by touring Greendale with a bus run on bio-diesel. Here's a photo of Neil and Willie getting pumped up on bio-diesel at the 2004 Farm Aid Benefit.

It apears to be a really coming thing!
