The above article gives a date of January 24, almost a month ago. I haven't yet found any reports online for a recently missing Canadian. Please provide links to news reports, if possible.

It appears to be info on Paul Leech from Manitoba, last sighted Jan 19th just north of La Gringa before his body was found a few days later.

The place has gone to dogs same as many other regions. Meaningless killing over an old truck. Probably druggies or a similar kind with broken brains and empty pockets, there is plenty of this in Mexico. There is a substantial population of migrants living in shacks between camp Archelon and Glorieta, coming and going. Most of them work "something" but there is only so much work in this dead-end town.

My first time to Baja 1975 full timer now 17+ years . Long time ago camping was fun in Baja. Camping last 20 years no way unless in large group.

It's been about ten years since I camped out there, but my dog and I enjoyed the isolation at the end of the road several times.

I will still look for remote solo campsites on my Baja sojourns, but not near that bay anymore.

Surprising to me that there is no report of this in the 'news', especially after the murder of the three surfers last year near Ensenada.

I wonder how many other tourist murders there have been in Baja that we don't know about.

I’ve been camping at that spot on and off for the last two months. Overnight camping. I’ve heard sounds at night that worried me. I’ve also heard coyotes howling right next to my truck. I’ve met some wonderful people there as well but don’t recall seeing Paul. I’m just wondering. Would a pack of coyotes attack a single individual. The report doesn’t say cause of death.

I've been wondering the same. Nothing about what police did or didn't find. If they were even trying to find anything.

An online search for 'human death from coyote attack' brings up information for one fatal attack in the US and one in Canada.

To my observations coyotes can be bold and are not deterred much by presence of humans. If you sit or lay down on the ground in the dark, he will keep coming and will stop only if you stand up. They do this even when there is no food and water around you. Doesn't have to be a pack, one coyote can be very persistent. They can bite you when provoked. In extreme circumstances like sudden winter when all their usual prey has disappeared they can attack and kill a large animal or a human. There was only one documented case in North America when they killed a grown up person. But, no small prey in Baja, all mice and ground squirrels disappeared? In Baja these rodents are eternal, humans will disappear before they will.

Just to note, the victim in the US was a three year old girl, small enough for one coyote to grab and drag away. In Canada a 19-year old girl was attacked and killed by two coyotes. Very rarely a coyote attacks a prey much larger than itself.

Avoid Bahia de los Angeles at all cost!
Most common victim - single guy with a nice camper and no dog

Friends of mine, two couples pulling two house trailers, camped alone on a beach between Pescadero and Cabo a few years ago. They were both robbed at gunpoint.

Yeah that’s too bad. That area is arguably the most beautiful in all of Baja. From Santa Rosalia to Gonzaga. You can hear whales sighing at night from the campgrounds. I believe Mike Humphreyvilles book At the foot of the Volcano must’ve taken place here because there are numerous caves in the cliffs. One thing to consider - if it weren’t for the narcs Carlos Slim would have converted this area into resorts years ago. The coast has remained wild because of them. Too wild I guess.

I really like coyotes. I like their independence and resourcefulness. I think they’re pretty smart as well. Back in the old days we used to camp at Punta Final. There’s a pack of maybe 15 coyotes in that area. One year I brought a dozen one gallon bottles of water for the trip and left them out while we went fishing. Bad idea. They had chewed off the tops of the bottles. The bottles were on their sides as they tried to lap the water at the openings. These were new sealed bottles. They didn’t chew any other part of the bottle. Some tops looked like they had been twisted off with their teeth. I was impressed. And peeed.

I have recorded all visible incidents involving foreigners in Baja for the last 10 years.
Yes robberies are happening. Always close to dense population centers.
My focus was on the murders.
10 in BC since 2018
2 in BCS

alone 4 in Bahia de los Angeles - plus rape and carjackings
not a good place

since we are on the topic - 10 armed robberies since 2019 in BC, 3 in BCS
RV break ins and theft is very popular in BCS
as expected in the tourist hot spots
La Paz (really bad), Loreto, Mulege and Todos Santos
I have no reports from the East Cape

This is so sad and scary. Our gem of a peninsula is slowly changing. Heart breaking that a man, minding his own business, is killed for his vehicle/belongings.
