Blood knots work well if the two lines you are tying together are the same thickness. Otherwise it will slip. The albright knot is good for connecting
lines of different thicknesses. The blood knot tightens into a more compact, smaller connection. It also is a weaker knot as I remember. It's a 60%
knot. Two 12lb lines will break at 8lb at the knot junction. An Albright is almost 100% knot.

Great information Skip !
I had never heard of the concept or measurement of the breaking potential involved with knots. It sure makes sense; I love it !
Is there a book that you know of that might get into this topic further ?

"Practical Fishing Knots" by Mark Sosin and Lefty Kreh. Sells on amazon.com for $10.36 new and $3.87 used. Many sporting good stores have it.
One more tidbit on the subject. If, after the line breaks, you reel in the end and find it all curly cued - then it's due to knot failure due to
slippage. Otherwise, it's for some other reason.
Last summer Alex lost a rapala on a skipjack. "But dad, I tied it just like you told me to. I did." I took one look at the end of the line and I knew
that uni knot wasn't tied properly.TMW - 4-27-2005 at 07:27 AM
As my son in law says "if you don't know how to tie a knot, tie a lot".
Buy that Sosin/Kreh book

don;t use a blood knot use a loop to loop connection with two loops that are 100% knots. And example is the bimini twist in the braided line- (I
always use this one) and a double surgeon's loop in the mono
look at Sosin/Kreh's description of how to properly loop to loop the loops, its important
don't use a blood knot, it will slip with strong saltwater species. I know this from experience, not my knots but those of my clients whose flyshops
put in bloods for them that later failed
