I received an email from T-Mobile in the US asking if I would like to be part of the satellite texting beta. I said yes and last week they sent me an
email saying I had been accepted. We were headed North and when we got out of cell phone coverage I sent a text to my daughter in Portland. They say
you have to be outside where you can see the sky but I sent it from the drivers seat in my van. It worked just fine.
This means their service works in Baja even though the beta testing is listed for the US only.
I sent the text using a standard iPhone 14 with no additional software.

Elon is making this happen. Partnership between T-Mobile and Starlink.

Seems like this could be very useful for the guys running the Baja 1000.

Low Earth Oribit (LEO) satellite systems are a communications game changer. Starlink leads, but there are many companies deploying satellite systems.
Billions are being invested.
The days of being w/o service in Baja are over.
