pascuale - 4-27-2005 at 11:22 AM

Does anyone know if you need a different stamp to fish in cabo on a mexican fishing license? Im fishing in Cabo and I have a year long Mexican fishing license I got in Loreto and they are the company told me that I absolutely must buy a license from them and mine does not work because I need a Cabo stamp on it? It sounds like BS to me but wanted someone elses opinion. Thanks

Stop buy Minerva's tackle shop, just down the street from Giggling Marlin. They are good honest people and will know what's going on. I've never heard of a stamp anywhere in Baja.

Good advice about seeing Minerva (or Bob). I fish there a lot and there is no such thing as a "stamp" I helped two freiends buy lic. in Cabo and it looked just like the one I got in San Diego.

Fishing Licenses are federal

that means they are good anywhere in Mexico. And, if someone is telling you something different to get your money, I would look into a different company as they are already showing their true nature.
If money is an issue, Fly Fishin Pam in Loreto may be able to help you out or maybe check into Palmas de Cortez in Los Barriles, I saw some pretty good sales on fishing trips coming up .

Go see Jerry on the Marina right below Cheezburger (near Baja Cantina) He has several boats from Panga's to a small cruiser and always catchs fish. No BS, just fishin.

A valid Mexican fishing license is all you need anywhere in Mexico!
Period!
The "con men" run this scam in Cabo cause most fishermen there are stupid tourists that fly in, and never got a license.!!
Also regarding Cabo. Many places sell a PHONEY, Counterfeit license just to get your money, or add it on to the price of the charter. This is illegal, totally. Just another scam.
You can only get a genuine, valid Mexican Fishing license, from the PESCA office on the 2nd floor, directly across the street from the Mar De Cortez Hotel.
This is the only place that sells them.

In past times the PESCA office let other places sell fishing licenses, but the money collected NEVER got back to the Pesca Office. Simple thievery, nothing less.

So, today in BCS, only PESCA offices in La Paz and CSL have licenses for sale.

I was in the CSL PESCA Office a week ago and Humberto Meza, Warden, said this.

Also, you must go buy the "SAT" forms needed(3 copies) from a local paper stationary store BEFORE you go into the PESCA Office.
Then after the paper forms are filled out, you must go to the BCS State Government office, 12 blocks away, next to the 7 Crowns Hotel, and make payment in cash to their cashier there.
Then you must return back to the PESCA Office you were just in for the Warden to stamp everything, and they keep a copy of the paid receipt also.

This is the way it is in MEXICO. Not planned out, it's just is their way!!

Also a further note. When you bring fish back into the USA, USA Customs will ask you to see your Mexican Fishing license.
If you don't have one, US Customs will seize your fish and cooler, and fine you for illegal fish being brought into the USA!!
NO LICENSE = illegally caught fish.
This is true, Look it up!
