From Bcs Nota Roja Bcs on FB... (translation by FB)

. =SEVEN PEOPLE DISAPPEAR IN LOS ANGELES BAY; THERE ARE INDICATIONS OF ORGANIZED CRIME INTERVENTION

. = Seven people, including a minor, were reported missing after being allegedly deprived of liberty last June 1, while heading to La Mission Ranch from Los Angeles Bay.

According to information gathered by authorities and local sources, the missing were traveling in a 2002 green Tahoe pickup truck and left around 1:00 p.m. They were intercepted en route by an armed command, who led them to the area of Nuevo Rosarito, a key point in the region linked to activities of organized crime.

The victims have been identified as Jesus Manuel Cortéz Rodriguez (22 years old), Anthon Diaz Alvarez (17), Omar Antonio Espinoza Sandoval (18), Daniel Alberto Diaz Fuerte (17), Edgar Alberto Diaz Zurita (40), Josué Perez Garcia (20) and one more unidentified. Most are local fishermen and students.

Investigations point out as possible responsible members of the criminal group known as "the Bones" armed arm of a criminal operator nicknamed "El Marino", who controls illegal activities in the region under the orders of the Arzate brothers.

It is presumed that the victims were taken to a safe house in the area as part of an operation by the criminal group, although so far their whereabouts have not been confirmed nor any contact has been established.

Hopefully soon state and federal authorities will begin operations in the region. The situation highlights the level of territorial control carried out by criminal groups in northern Baja California, as well as the impunity they operate in rural communities. The group of "Los Huesos" has devoted themselves to taking ground, extortions to fishermen, lifting and torture without stopping them.

This note is in development. Update information as investigations progresses.

Nuevo Rosarito is the village on highway 1 where the road to Mission San Borja starts. I was there last year when I went to Mission San Borja. I haven't yet found La Mission Ranch marked on a map of the area. I wonder if it is the ranch at Mission San Borja.

I was in there myself last year, in fact I had a tire repaired in Nuevo Rosarito.

I didn't get any bad vibes at the shop, or anywhere else on that visit. There was a well-attended running event on the dirt road crossing over to the paved road to B.D.L.A. with support vehicles, shade and water stops along the way.

BOLA is so remote and small, but so many bad things have happened there. And now disappearing 7 people at once in broad daylight on the main road. Horrible.

I just read was one of the victims has escaped. No details.

"... the area of Nuevo Rosarito, a key point in the region linked to activities of organized crime." Good to know. Cross that off the List.

There are two popular highway restaurants there, plus the little 'Cactus Motel'. A lot of good people are there, too. That flashy line from some activist reporter may be mostly fantasy. Be careful everywhere, including San Diego and especially Los Angeles! ;)

Dk,
Just recently 13 people were killed in shootout in punta prieta. And there were also recent shootouts in rural areas around turtle bay, vizcaino, etc.
There is some sketchy stuff going on right now in rural baja….

Comparing crime in rural and small town baja to large urban areas in usa is ridiculous…

David K - 6-4-2025 at 03:17 PM

Yes it is. So, you will travel in high crime US cities but not in rare crime Baja rural areas? I get that you are cautious but do foreigners, who don't traffic drugs, need to boycott the peninsula?

David K - 6-4-2025 at 08:22 PM

No, only suspect that by the negativity.

Don’t have to believe the media.

But, how is a kidnapping not negative? And, how is this activism?

surabi - 6-5-2025 at 03:18 PM

Activism definition:
the use of direct and noticeable action to achieve a result, usually a political or social one

If it weren't for activists, we'd all still be living like cavemen, all countries would be run by kings and nothing would ever change.
However, some people these days have decided it's a dirty word, and only applies to those in the opposite political party, applying it to anyone who vocally opposes their politics. And apparently think "activism" equals negativity. Ignorance abounds.

A delegation of agents from the State Attorney General's Office (FGE) will travel in a few hours to the Bahía de los Ángeles delegation, very close to the San Borja Mission where this Thursday, June 5, a clandestine grave was located.
The discovery occurred when investigation agents were searching for eight missing people.
On Sunday, June 1, relatives reported to the authorities that eight people, including a minor, were missing. According to witnesses, they saw the group in a Tahoe truck driving from Bahía de los Ángeles towards the Ejido Nuevo Rosarito. During the journey, they encountered an armed commando and from there they lost track of them.
The missing are identified as: Jesús Manuel Cortez Rodríguez, 22 years old, Anthon Díaz Alvarez, 17 years old, Omar Antonio Sandoval, 18 years old, Josué Pérez García, 20 years old, Edgar Alberto Díaz Zurita, 40 years old, and Daniel Alberto Díaz Fuerte, 17 years old.
There are two more people whose identity is unknown. The missing are from Baja California Sur, some from Guerrero Negro.
The operation in San Borja is made up of elements of the FGE, as well as the Secretariat of National Defense (SEDENA) who will carry out the work to extract the bodies from the grave.

I drove thru nuevo rosarito today . Even though I was fearing for my life with every fiber in my body I soldiered on trembling with fear.

Part 2 tomorrow.

Not really a joking matter.

I wouldnt drive the 1 through nuevo rosarito area after dark… nor linger long there in the day.

Much of remote baja is really not safe for solo travelers and small groups. Really only got safety if in large groups.

Some scary chit going on in remote central baja between vizcaino and catavina…

True that anyone harmed is not a laughing matter but your endless fear mongering and negativity is.

I just spent the better part of 2 weeks remote camping with my wife and everything was fine.

I do appreciate one part of your fear mongering though, I had all my camp spots to myself. So keep it up goat and please include yourself on the "I'm afraid to go to Baja list".

Thank you, and it has a English option for most Nomads to read easily, too.

SFandH - 6-7-2025 at 11:48 AM

ZETA isn't published in English, at least I'm not aware of it. It's a Tijuana newspaper/magazine that publishes in-depth articles and editorials, and performs investigative reporting.

My Chrome browser does an excellent job of translation. I suppose all browsers do these days.
