Shooting in loreto

What I've been told 5 people were shot and killed in Loreto two days ago
One of the contractors that is working on my project told me that they were having dinner and two trucks with men armed with weapons drove slowly by the main Plaza . an American girl saw them and was frightened and they told her not to worry she would be alright then they took off from there and went after some other people.

Everyone is talking about it down.

If anyone else has heard anything about this please post as I would like to hear more about this

Not everyone is talking about this.

A friend who knows Loreto and lives in town knew ''3-4'' people had been shot and another murder somewhere else. That's all he knew and would ask around.

Unlike NOB shootings which tend to be indiscriminate and random, the victims of this shooting were probably targeted.

For those who remain frightened by the violence SOB and fear mongering reported here, stay NOB.

Today two more people were killed while I was in town. My Mexican friends called me and told me to head back to ligui as they were still looking the guys

Oh and by the way if you guys have forgotten how we sent the US military to some place in Southeast asia ? That worked out well

I love Baja that's why I'm here but sometimes it smart to see what's in front of you. I could say more but I'll see what responses I get from this

Yes, many, if not most of these murders are targeted. But you seem to be implying that if the victims are targeted, they must be involved in some bad business? That isn't always the case. Many innocent people, who are not in any way involved with the cartels or criminal activity are targeted, from journalists to environmentalists to regular business owners.

I personally know 2 people in my town who got violently home invaded several years ago, simply because the perps assumed they had a bunch of money stashed in their homes from their businesses.
My Mexican plumber/electrician picked up his family and moved to a different part of the country because he was being shaken down and threatened and feared for his and his family's lives.

And there are also random attacks on tourists.

I'm not advocating for people to live in fear and stop travelling to and around Mexico, but brushing off the rampant violence as if it's just fear mongering by scaredy cats is not very informed or realistic.

Yes victims are involved in bad business or, in this case, are having dinner with someone doing bad business. Wrong place for the innocent.

Violence in Baja might be rampant to some, but not to me. Those here fear mongering (Billy, and others) are sending the message that Baja is too dangerous to visit. What else is the message? Just be more careful?

A number of nomads are canceling their trips, taking a break, waiting for the violence to subside. They're scared. Call it what you want.

Violence and murders in La Paz are meaningless to me in Pescadero. Rampant violence and murders of gringoes in Todos would get my attention.

An example might be the number of police shakedowns. How many really get posted here or FB? I think it's the tip of the iceberg.

Then there's the old guard. Violence never happened in Baja. They use to cruise Hgwy 1 with a Pacifico in hand, and no worries in the world. That's never been the Baja I know.

More Californians who have NEVER been to Baja are frightened to death of the ''thought'' at what could happen to them down South.

Sounds like some nomads here.

I used to property manage a small house in my touristy town that a couple from Pennsylvania owned. They only came down once or twice a year for a few weeks, the rest of the time it was rented out.
They told me that the people in their church group kept expressing how brave these homeowners were to come to Mexico and told them "We pray for you every day you are there".

None of those people had ever been to Mexico. Meanwhile the homeowners were enjoying their beers on their balcony while virtually naked, going to the beach and out for dinner and attending interesting cultural events.

Violence in Loreto involved family members. No bad hombres or drugs.

Similar to family violence in Pescadero years ago.
