Yes, it was sad... he was a great off-road pickup truck racer and it didn't matter what brand (Ford, Chevy, Dodge)!

He was so amazing, that in the 1979 Baja 1000, he was the over-all 4-wheel vehicle winner.. beating the traditionally fastest Class 1 unlimited buggies, V-8s, etc.

I took this photo at the first Score Baja race (1974 Baja Internacional) at Mike's Sky Rancho checkpoint stop, racing a Ford with Bill Stroppe's team:

Then, racing a Chevy for Parnelli Jones, at the 1975 Baja 1000, at Valle de la Trinidad:

Vaya Con Dios Walker!

Great pix, great memories

He was always a class act, never acting like a big timer
When we built our first truck Stroppe had us come to his shop and used Walker's truck to demonstrate stuff we needed to do.

Pre-ran with him once, that was an experience for sure

Hew was a legend, right up there with Parnelli, Mears and Malcom

That was an interesting shift when both he and PJ went over to Chevy
Us Ford guys were pretty bummed over that departure

"I'd take out my best friend to get to the finish line first!" Not a wonder he is such a legend!

That is the point of racing..... get there first.

Did you see the team mates banging and swapping paint Sunday at both the NASCAR and the F1 races.
