Any members/pilots still flying south ?

Are there any members/pilots that still fly to Baja?
Its always been a dream for my wife and I to fly in a small plane along the baja coast. We have a place in Los Barriles and it would be really cool to be able to fly into the area. Any suggestions would be great.

It is a shame that the drug cartels have all but ruined private plane travel and forced most of the 200+ Baja runways of the past to be closed by the military.

The Bush Pilots International (orig. Baja Bush Pilots) club would be your first place to join. They provide members with the latest regulations and airport conditions. HERE: https://www.bajabushpilots.com/

They originated with Arnold Senterfitt back in the 60s & 70s. Arnold authored the great series of flying guides called Airports of Baja California and Airports of Mexico & Central America.

There was a time, before paved roads, the flying in was the popular way to vacation. Every resort, fishing village, and many ranchos had landing strips.

I have posted some photos of runways here on Nomad in the past in the Nomad forum for that subject:

Arnold made some colorful wall maps, too!

Thanks for the info David.
I know they still fly into punta pescadero just north of los barriles.
We have an old baja friend who has since passed away that would fly into palmas de cortez back in the day, he had some great stories.

Pescadero has an impressive paved runway!

Because of recent changes in the law Punta Pescadero and almost all other non towered airports are closed

Oh Boy, this thread has me thanking my lucky stars that I was able to have so many flights into Baja. Starting in the early 80's and continuing till late 2012 when I sold my last plane, I have probably over 200 wonderful trips. I have to say about the only bummer in all my flights was having my T-210 stolen, March of '04. We sold out of Baja in 2015, sadly, so this update on flying conditions is a sad commentary. For those of you that continue to fly down south, good for you, enjoy things while you still can.
