Any recent news on road conditions for both roads into or out of San Borja? One of our party will be towing a trailer.

Reading many Baja Facebook pages, I don't recall any special concerns. However, as a general note, trailing may or may not be an issue. Just what kind
of trailer are you towing (utility or travel/ camper) and with what kind of vehicle (2wd of 4wd)?

Thanks David, One of the other clinic volunteers wants to take a slow caravan down to the next clinic. He’ll be towing a 25’ travel trailer (tip
of tongue to stern) with a new 2WD pickup. I’ll be joining them with my ‘05 GMC full ton diesel 4X4 with an Alaskan camper. It’s their first
foray, so we’ll be taking it slow, prolly San Felipe at Villa Marina, then Papa Fernandez, Dagget’s in BoLA, one night at San Borja, a couple at
Bahía Asunción, San Ignacio, El Requeson, and finally La Paz.

Hmmm... my gut feeling is he should not go through San Borja with that trailer. Let's hope another Nomad will have a recent report that the road was
graded since the last storm damage.

I wish I had recent information, but the last time I drove that road was a year ago. Based on the conditions then, I would discourage your friend
from attempting the drive in a 2wd vehicle pulling a trailer without you doing a pre-run first.
I did not need 4wd in my Trooper, but there were soft spots and dips that would be a hazard, especially between San Borja and the B.D.L.A road. With
the recent storm damage there is a red flag in my opinion.
By the way, when I was at San Borja, I did not get out of my vehicle. There was a pack of loose dogs that did not appear to be interested in any
other vehicles or people, but saw my dog and would not leave us alone. They appeared to be typical mellow Baja dogs, but I did not want to risk a
fight wirh my 90 pound co-pilot.

Thanks AK. What I was thinking too. Yes, for an SUV or truck, 2WD is okay but not towing. Just 2 miles from the L.A. Bay highway is a sand wash then a
short, steep climb. That would be the limit or test if you should continue on the remaining 20 miles.
The other road in, also 22 miles, from Nuevo Rosarito on Hwy. 1 has no steep parts but there was some narrow parts through brush and ruts, in 2017.

Unfortunately I can't give you current conditions either.
Unless it is a dedicated off road type trailer I'd leave the trailer at Daggett's and make San Borja a day trip. I certainly wouldn't want to come in
from the BdLA road.

I just drove the road from bdla to San francisquito. It's in the worst shape I've ever seen. I wouldn't attempt San Borja with anything but an offroad
trailer.
The good news is the road from the junction to Rancho piedra blanca/el arco is in fine shape=very fast!

Gracias, we will have to bypass San Borja for a night’s stay. Prolly just take them out on a day excursion in my crew cab.

The rowdy dog event occurred at Mission Santa Gertrudis, which I also checked out on the same trip.
