That drive is definitely doable. You can always stay the night in Catavina to make it a little shorter drive. But there are hotels in between….have

Yes, easy (as others say)...
There is lodging at Parador Punta Prieta (The L.A. Bay highway jcn.), a new motel that looks very nice is next door to the abandoned gas station.
There is also a small motel in (Nuevo) Rosarito (Hotel Cactus) and in Villa Jesus María (Hotel Villa del Mar).
Cataviña is not along the route, but 30 miles north on Mex 1 from Laguna Chapala (where Mex 5 meet Mex 1).

Great to reach GN and stay at Halfway Inn (just past military camp) and eat at Mario’s down the road. The Inn is clean enough and always had a

around that area that’s an option.
I did that twice because the people I was with wanted a better hotel than what is in the surrounding areas.

Yes, a glance at a map will show Cataviña is 30+ miles in the wrong direction from your route. The new motel Parador at the L.A. Bay junction is a

I am pretty sure that it is, or was, an "end of life" facility for wrecked or abandoned vehicles in that area.
