Aqua Verde

We will be staying in Puerto Escondido for a few days later this month and curious if Aqua Verde would be a good day trip? Anyone gone lately and if so how are the road conditions etc? we will be driving a Subaru outback. Ive never been before...is it worth it? Thanks

I don't have recent information, but based on my previous visits I recommend that you make the trip! The road might cause a little pucker factor, but gets enough traffic that it gets repaired as needed, and a Subaru Outback is a more than adequate vehicle.

Very easy drive.

If you want to do it right, charter a small boat at Escondido and go by water. I've done it several times with my boat and via charter. It's spectacular.

I have not done a boat ride to Agua Verde, but I think the road is scenic enough that I will drive it again, probably on my next trip.

By the way, if anyone reading this post has stopped at the restaurant at the turn-off recently, how was it? A year ago in late January I ate there, and the new management hadn't figured out what a good meal and service was all about.

I stopped by at the Hwy 1 junction Sunday and spoke with locals at the market.
Reports are road is good and of course they drive in and out in 2 wheel drive beaters all the time. It is prettier from sea approach but the fishing there is in sad state of yesterday as in many yestrerdays ago

The drive is amazing by road. You should do both.

Just got back from AV. Road is in good shape lots of campers and even a Harley on the beach. Both beach restaurants were open and food was good.

ETA, fishing was terrible.

How long does it take to get there from the highway?

It's roughly a 25 mile drive. 45 min to an hour.

Thanks for posting the nice photos, JZ.

Impressively clear water in some of those images. Is most of the 'Sea of Cortez' still pristine like that?

Yes, in the shallow bays.

Isla Coronado, which is a few short miles from Loreto, has turquoise water like the Caribbean. The pangas at the marina will take you out there.
