I grew up hearing the Spanish verb chiflar used as the translation of "whistle." SpanishDictionary.com uses the word silbar. Both

Our late personal friend Glenn, or 'Whistler' on Amigos de Baja & Baja Nomad, who retired to Punta Abreojos, said his handle in Spanish was
'Chifladero'. If that is of interest...
In October 2000, at my Viva Baja #1 event in San Clemente:
'Dana Point Dave' and 'Whistler' (Glenn) seated while 'David K' listens in for that secret fishing spot! 'Paulina' is just inside the
doorway.
Don't know what happened with Dana Point Dave, but Paulina is still active on the Internet from L.A. Bay, mostly on Facebook.
