The La Balandra Rotary Club continues to sponsor the semi annual clinics at our facility in La Paz. This past clinic lasted from March 16 through the
27th.
I was at our property in Bahía Asunción, so I returned to the border on March 10th to lead a caravan of volunteers down to the clinic.
After crossing and getting their FMM’s we headed south on Mex 5, stopping at Papa Fernandez for the first night. Next morning we had a great
breakfast there (thank you Rick), then continued south to the Ojo de Liebre turn off. The 4 volunteers (2 in a motor home and 2 in a travel trailer)
went out to the campground and I went back to my property in BA to drop off my boat that I had taken back to the border in order to renew the TIP. I
wasn’t able to renew it (long story for another time).
I met the caravan the next morning at the taco stand by the Pemex at the Vizcaino junction. The motor home was overheating so we lost about a half
days travel having that fixed and ended up staying at Rice and Beans in San Ignacio to spend the night and have dinner and breakfast. Kirk and Tim
went into town to line up a mule ride to the cave paintings at SF de la Sierra on their return after the clinic.
We continued south and spent the night at El Requeson where Tim made us a wonderful dinner of oysters and shrimp we bought from a local vendor. Tim
also made us a great breakfast the next morning then we were off to Loreto. We found a campground in town so the guys could walk around town and see
the sites including the church and museum.
Next day we arrived at the clinic where we parked the motor home and my Alaskan camper and began preparing for the clinic. Kirk and Tim camped at an
RV park just down the street from the clinic. The next morning the clinic opened. Because we had a good number of volunteers we were able to deliver
an amazing 25 prostheses (above knee, below the knee and ankle disarticulations), 12 AFO’s (below the knee braces), and several pairs of arch
supports for severe problems of the feet. In addition we repaired and modified existing patients sockets for muscular atrophy, replacing broken feet
and knee units, delivering new liners and stump socks, etc. 3 patients had to be deferred to the next clinic due to lack of parts and 11 consults were
conducted to be seen at the next clinic.
Volunteers for the clinic included Jim Thompson and his daughter Donna, Kirk Douglass, his wife Kayce and their friend Tim, Doug Pinkley and his
brother Rick, Brad and Louise Farrow, Garth Knapp, Victor Jimenez, Christian Santiario, Hannah North, myself, and a few foreign exchange students from
the Rotarians.

Nice report senor. I’m interested to hear about the TIP renewal as well.
