It's been some years since i crossed the border northbound with an RV, but i seem to recall always being directed to secondary inspection.
Can anyone of you frequent RV travelers tell me if this is still the common practice?

We cross regularly northbound at Calexico (Mexicali) East in a 24’ class C Motorhome or an Airstream Sprinter van conversion. We seldom get sent to
secondary. Sometimes the officer at the booth will take a quick look inside.

I've never heard of the mandatory secondary inspection but you're far more likely to get sent just because of having more things in the vehicle. I get
sent back probably 50% of the time. They usually just go through my fridge for forbidden foods it seems.

Always leave them something innocuous to confiscate so they can justify to themselves having searched you. That's always been my attitude and has
worked well.

Not even secondary, but at the drive thru station the agent got out of her booth and went through my stuff in a Honda Element. She confiscated an
open package of FUD lunch meat and scolded me for trying to bring it into the US.
I suggested that she toss it to my dog to dispose of it, but she said no and took it to her booth.
By the way, she did not want to see my dog's shot records and veterinary paperwork.

From a long time ago I was told If you have a van or a pick up truck
with just a bed shell generally no secondary if all is normal But if you
have a cab over camper with bed and storage its off to secondary.
I guess it all depends on what shows up on inspection/ dog walk
