Swimming pool evaporation

Arep831 - 7-14-2026 at 10:07 AM

as the construction of our new swimming pool is about complete, it may be a little late in the game for this, but. What do people do about evaporation of their pool water? We will be splitting our time between Loreto and our home in the states so there may be times we won’t be using the pool for 4 or 5 weeks. I’m guessing one of those bubble wrap covers?
TIA

Bubble-plastic covers work to decrease evaporation and passively heat the pool. They bring their own cleaning and maintenance issues. And make the pool ugly.
I used them when i first had a pool. No longer use them.

Try it out. They degrade after about a year in the sun, so after a year you can decide if you want to buy a replacement after the first one needs to be thrown away.

Goat's right about the covers. We just add or subtract water depending on the season.

Also with a pool cover getting the chemicals right is a challenge especially if you're not there to monitor. You may come back to a green pool.

Leaving a pool for weeks or months, you better hire a pool boy to maintain it.
