Does anyone know if this is a permanent change from San Felipe?

Yes, the event is permanently shifting locations. SCORE International announced that the legendary San Felipe 250 is officially moving to Mexicali and rebranding as the SCORE Baja 250, effectively replacing the San Felipe event.

That is a big change. Will be a gut punch to San Felipe but will be good for Mexicali. Change is the only constant.

Does that mean San Felipe will enjoy the same financial rewards of the race as Mexicali? Big negative!

Only one year was it moved to Ensenada with a name change to Baja 250, because an ejido wouldn't let the race cross its land.

A note: Before moving to San Felipe with the name changed to San Felipe 250, it was the Mexicali 250...

Note, the 'Baja Internacional' was what Score called the Baja 500 before the legal rights to the name was surrendered by NORRA, who created and ran that race to 1973.

Petty theft and vehicle theft of all participants and spectators is certainly going to be higher in Mexicali. Will be interesting to see how this plays out.

As much as us Luddites hate things that change, I guess I will have to stop looking at old maps.

For what it is worth, I would much rather travel to San Felipe for a race than Mexicali!

A triple A map of Baja is a keeper. I wore out a couple of those back in the days of pickup trucks and campers.

I am sure the race is still mostly in rural areas, so plenty of places to see it for peeps nervous about the city.

I used those maps to get to secret surfing spots in the 80s, when there actually were secret spots. :cool:
