Trees and rocks?? ..... The absolutely, uncontested answer

In Mexico, why do they paint tree trunks and rocks white?

White paint is the least expensive !!!!

To mark the road for night driving. Cheaper than installing reflecting signs, and it looks nice.

It's done in many countries. Works like a champ for nite driving. Looks sorta cool too.

YI,

I don't see that the marital status of your parents could possible alter your appreciation of soup! :o :?:

Keeps bugs of the trees

I think that the trunks of trees next to the earth are painted to either (a) keep the insects from chewing on the bark or (b) it discourages them from climbing up to the leaves and eating them. Basically, it preserves the plant by keeping the bugs off due to a chemical ingredient they avoid.

I'll go with the bug theory. You see this everywhere throughout Latin America, and not just near roads.

That doesn't explain why the rocks are painted white.

Avocado

yankeeirishman - 5-5-2005 at 05:47 PM

Avocado trees used to be painted at the trunk (plastic barrier now) to prevent sunburn. Other trees as well. Oh....now I am talking trees here...not soup!

I'm sorry it was possibly a poor attempt at humour.
