I thought maybe you were communicating with Jacque Cousteau.
Now THAT, would have been interesting.

As far as poliical clout and recognition Jean-Michel has plenty. He has probably organized and participated in more international conferences and symposium than his famous father. Although he spends less time actually in the water, Jean-Michel is found plying the global seas. His mission of educating people starts with his interest in getting the message to children. He understands the process of teaching young people the truth and consequences of mismanaging and abusing the ocean.
If you take some time to do a little research, you will see his undying hands-on approach in dealing with the subject.
As with any well equipped researcher, Jean-Michel utilizes state-of-the-art equipment such as GPS transmitters, bouyied transducers and a host of other hi-tech means in order to back up his claims.
We were fortunate to get to know Mr. Cousteau on a more casual basis when he spent considerable time in Newport documenting "Kieko" the famous whale brought here from Mexico City. After many meals and some discussions I am convinced the man in passionate about his mission.
A friendly man, he does not offer up snobbery. Instead, he constantly talks of his vision of improving the quality of life in the oceans. His entourage sometimes includes his beautiful wife and/ or daughter his photographer and his skipper. The crew typically includes a host of oceanographers, scientists and grad students.
This year a focus on educating and otherwise informing Pacific nations of the need to preserve shark populations and species. His approach is multi-faceted and begins with solid data collection. Because of his notoriety he is able to bring together and influence political figures and upper level politicians.
A Pepperdine grad, he was in college in L.A. when I was. He also has seen the demise of sealife on Californias coast. Isn't it odd a man from France would care that much about a screwed up ocean next to such a grown up area.
His love for the oceans has led him all over the planet. He operates a resort in Figi (yes, he's a capitalist) At the isolated resort you would find a lesson not found at typical retreat.
We have discussed his attempts to save the endangered species on this west coast. Progress is being made but as is the case, the wheels turn slow in many countries. I am glad someone has the fortitude to follow through with these "real time" studies and evaluations. I wish there were more, especially on this side of the world.

Jacques Cousteau has not need to worry... his son has taken it to task.
