i was in bola a couple of weeks ago and noticed a tree there that was like raining,, anybody know what kind it is and if that tree can live without the salt thanks

I've been told it's called a "Salt Pine". It can be grown off of a clipping that has been rooted in water.

Could it be what I have always called "salt cedar"?

Salt Cedar, Salt Pine....the terms seem to be interchangeable in the Baja Plant guide. Either way it is really a Tamarisk...an invading species here in San Diego county...but welcome shade in Baja.

I camped under one at Cielito Lindo....I left table & chairs out like I always do (I was snug in my CallenCampershell that is FOR SALE).

The next morning was very foggy and the tree was dripping dirty dew. What a dirty, soggy mess! If you are camping when there is likely to be fog....beware!

These are the trees that offer shade at Nuevo Mazatlan... In the humid summer, the needles collect moisture from the air and when wiggled will rain on you! The rain is clean at Nuevo Mazatlan because there are not fields of dirt all around, like at Cielito Lindo. See http://community-2.webtv.net/vivabaja/nm
